    Hey guys,

I just heard about the massive Corbin Fisher lawsuit back in March and was wondering what everyone's thoughts are. Do you think this is the start of a trend? Do you think they will eventually go after more people? Or is this just a stunt and will stop at this?

Corbin Fisher is retarded. That's like Kanye West trying to sue his fans for illegally downloading his music. That just makes people not like him.

The real problem is people are piping for-pay porn material into file sharing sites.

If you don't do that, I think you're safe.

No the real problem is taking porn producers seriously. I'm not sure how them making more money by suing and making an example out of a fapping homosexual really benefits society in any way.

Ok, but if you're a lawyer for any pornographer, who will settle faster?

    Someone sharing straight porn?

    Or, someone sharing gay porn?

I honestly don't know who will settle faster. This is porn pirating, not museum paintings being stolen. Illegal porn downloading has become as ubiquitous as illegal music downloading. To sue or arrest someone over it is ridiculous because virtually everyone does it. If Corbin Fisher doesn't want illegal downloading then they can look into other ways to prodect their videos from getting ripped.

And if I were a lawyer for any pornographer I'd probably kill myself.

I could be wrong. But, my impression is they were tracking people who operated Torrent sites. Not the people who downloaded. Damn Torrents. Forgot how they work.

I agree that they should look into other ways of doing it. Some sites require a login even if just to watch an already-downloaded file on your computer.

But I don't think they're being unreasonable to also sue violators (although the amount they sue them for is ridiculous). We rightfully give speeding tickets to speeders even though everyone speeds. We won't stop everyone from speeding this way, but it does offer a deterrent.

I think the people defending Corbin Fisher don't understand what Corbin Fisher does.

Corbin Fisher promotes an image of the ideal desired male as being straight, or "gay for pay." To young or closeted viewers, this reinforces the belief that the straight man is the sexual ideal, and can cause lowered self-esteem in gay men since they may not see themselves or other gay men as being equally desirable.

    ...and that's why I don't watch porn.

That's pretty hard, considering we're engineered to be fuckbeasts!

Some of us are engineered to be fuckbeasts. Some of us would rather make fun of the fuckbeasts for thinking with their genitals instead of their brain. icon_lol.gif

Just sayin' what the norm is! The fact that many (or most) of us resort to porn reduces our chances of engaging in risky sexual behaviour, which is good generally.

While that may be good in a way, internet porn addiction can lead to issues with intimacy should the situation arise, and it feeds what is basically a heteronormative ideal of what a man should be. Plus, a lot of the industry treats its performers like shit. So, while it has one benefit, there are several often-unnoticed downsides.

Trying to stop the downloading and viewing of internet porn is like trying to stop a flood with the use of a teaspoon

Unless they can get hold of the technology it just isn't going to stop it

I don't think you guys are understanding why this is a big deal. What people are afraid of is young men who are closeted being outted because theyre being sued by this porn company, and it could be teenagers too.

It could ruin some guys' lives.

Corbin Fisher's like the honey badger, doesn't give a shit.

Another reason to hate the way the industry operates.

I don't want to start a masculine vs. feminine debate but it stands to reason that if they were trying to do this they would find dudes that were a little more masculine as opposed to the shaved, trimmed and manscaped to within an inch of their life pussyboys they currently feature. #justsayin

But I halfway agree with you: they hire mostly straight dudes, it even says so on their website. On the other hand, so do a lot of the online porn companies so apparently there's a demand for it, no?

The demand is a lot of what bothers me: why do so many gay men buy into this idealization of the straight man? Like, why can't openly gay guys be seen as being as hot or as masculine or whatnot?

The glorification of barebacking in porn is a tad disturbing... especially in regards to the impact it may have on younger guys who did not live thru or at least were aware of the impact HIV and AIDS had on the gay community in the 1980s and 90s.

Younger guys - particularly under 30 - often have a sense of invincibility and immortality.

When combined with the growing, foolish consensus that "HIV is no longer a serious health issue due to the availability of (expensive even with health insurance) treatments... " the rise of barebacking in porn will no doubt influence men to forgo condoms and safer sex for more enjoyable but riskier - and potentially deadly if not costly results.
