You have to be pretty fucking oblivious to assume everyone enjoys 80's metal you're relentlessly pumping into your gym's PA system. I deeply resent that it blasts from speakers hung from the ceiling above the cardio equipment, guaranteeing that I will be extra miserable during my 5 mile run.

Most people in the gym are wearing earphones, including myself.

Obvious to everyone except you, your employees can't hear their entertainment from the front desk unless its scraping paint off the walls on the far end of the gym.

    Freaking weasels.

Yeah, definitely notify the gym manager. This is a minor issue that can be taken care of quickly if you ask nicely.

Also, 80's metal is awesome! icon_cool.gif

On the flip side, I'm sick and tired of the gyms catering to all these flaming faggots with muscles by spewing out this top 40 dance remix shit at the gym. Do you honestly think I'm going to get a workout with Beyonce raping my ears with another trainwreck or Lady Ga Ga fucking up my reps with another loud tranny song?

I'd much rather listen to 80s metal.

But yeah I actually totally agree with you on hating the blasting speakers. Idiots at gyms don't care or understand about hearing loss when they place speakers in some cases. I worked out at a gym once that played good music but it was so loud I felt like I was drunk because I've only been drunk when hearing music that loud in the past. I ended up walking out hungover.

Was I really that vague? [edit] oh shit, I was. I will go back and fix. Sorry.

I have an Iphone 32GB and headphones and a rather extensive iTunes library.

I can't hear any of it over the Gym's PA system.

Metal is fucking awesome. How dare you insult it.

Also, Jake, agreed, except at my gym they will never change it because half the male members like... members.

Bally has it complete with music video on 10 different TVs.

My favorite wish would be having one of the above mentioned songs come on, and just dancing super gay in the free weights section. I would just need a buddy (or 2 or 3) so I don't embarass myself LOL.

If the gym ever becomes so crowded that I can't use anything...I'll know what to do to send the guys scattering LOL.

I know some gyms like to pipe music over their PA system, which I find unnecessary. They should be willing to reduce the volume so it doesn't drown out your iPhone. If the front desk can't help, talk to the manager. If that doesn't help, find a new gym.

My gym only plays rap music and hip-hop. There is no need to have music at the gym. You're not there to listen a hair band or a rap song about murdering some one. If you want music that's what an ipod and headphones are for. Gyms seem to be stuck in the idelogy that it needs to be a party atmosphere when you walk in. How about the gyms stopped paying for music and lower their rates!

I wonder how trainers don't go crazy listening to the same music channel set by management day in, day out. I'm going out of my mind just hearing the same songs 4 times a week.icon_mad.gif

Hey I totally agree!! but I'd prefer the 80's metal over the shitty pop music top 100 charts crap ..it's total brainwash having to listen to those songs over and over and over..then I catch myself singing one of those stupid songs I don't even like icon_sad.gif.... wtf?!?!?!

Solution- bring your own iphone/ipod and call it a day icon_smile.gif

Work out at home or local park with Kettlebells or TRX/BodyWeight exercises... bring iPod / iPhone or other smartdevice.

And the gym I go to when I need to do heavy lifting is on an army post - no music whatsoever, just the langourous grunts, crashing metal plates, and the mildly stale sweat and male pheromones of the bodybuilder types.

And the couple-three TV screens playing CNN or reruns of "Scrubs" over by the elliptical machines.

Not too bad, and nearly zero chance of getting cruised (no low-self-esteem rooms or saunas, lol...)

    my gym plays dance/pop mostly.

My last gym played really hard hip hop. unedited cursing, lyrically nothing but shooting people and fucking women. I live in the burbs for fucks sake. clearly this was the choice of the 20 something white dudes working the front desk. One day I went up to them and said look where you are and who works out here. This isnt the hood. A bunch of white guys in their 30s and 40s really dont want to hear this.

I'm sorry, but have you gone to mngmnt and addressed the issue? Or have you simply been obessing over it and getting more aggravated? icon_eek.gif
    Say somethingicon_exclaim.gif
They are not letting you workout for free are they? Most likely not. You are paying them your money. Address the issue period!!
If you get no satisfaction, find another gym. Palin and simple. Move on!

Why do people simply not address an issue when it becomes a problem?!? I don't get it. icon_question.gif
Who cares how it sounds or looks to them? Get in their faces and address it now!

    Good luck,
    Tristan

I agree with JakeBenson. How the fuck can anybody workout to fucking Beyonce and fucking Usher? My gym sometimes plays thee shittest music known to mankind.

When I'm squatting and benching and lifting; I need 'heavy' music - I have my own MP3 with these cool earphones that block out the gym's shit music.

The only music to lift to is heavy metal! Not fucking teenage pop bullshit!

Gyms are unfortunately full of morons and there's not a whole lot you can do about it. In our country; some people talk at the top of their fucking voices, which I find frustrating. It breaks my focus. Dumb cunts are just sitting talking twat.

Sort of related. I ended up leaving that gym for 24 hour fitness. When LA Fitness called to see why I left (I guess a lot of people left that particular location) I told them the music was awful and the staff only cared to help members who had huge tits. If you had a dick you were invisible. The guy from LA Fitness said "Yeah, we have been hearing that a lot. We let all of them go. Would you be interested in coming back?" I said No.

Before I got my MP3 and earphones - I used to always ask them to play something better, like hardcore trance; anything but fucking rapping kak (shit).

heh, i get online survey requests from Bally once in a while, and in the last one I got, i replied with, "Please stop playing love songs and junk from Taylor Swift, I don't think it's conducive to hear her warbling about high school love when we're trying to lift weights. Thanks."

My gym always has Siruis radio on and it's the SAME SET OF SONGS no matter when I go. It's the same 5 Lady Gaga songs, same 2 Beyonce songs, the same 2 Jay Sean/Z/whoeverthehellitis...

    Thank God for my iPod...
