    Shawn Loftis (aka "Collin O'Neil")
He did nothing illegal in his past.
He was not involved with making gay porn while a teacher.
There are nekked pictures of him on the internet (in action too!).

Should a person be fired from a job working with children after having had a gay porn career?

Edit: Does the fact that he he's smokin hot and have a 9" dick change your opinion?

I personally don't see the big deal about people's past in porn. For many, porn is a temporary job to get through some rough times. You can't really blame them. It's a job like any other. However, it's no surprise that Loftis' past adult work is a problem with the school board. Unfortunately most employers don't have the most positive reaction to employees or potential employees with a porn past despite meeting most or all qualifications for a position they're seeking. Many companies are all about their image though. They have to have employees who embrace the ideal image and values of the company.

I wonder how the school found out about his past career. Certainly he wouldn't have listed it on an application for employment. I have mixed feelings about this. His former job was legal and I find no problem with it. I have no kids so someone with kids might feel that such a past was inappropriate. Would a heterosexual porn past have been given the same treatment? I doubt it.

I was wondering about that myself. I've heard plenty of stories about female teachers getting fired for having an adult past, but I can't say the same about straight male teachers. I don't know anything about that.

Here's a picture of "Colin O'Neil" publicly available from the internet.

Does the fact that these pictures are publicly available on the internet change your point of view?

It doesn't bother me at all.

I can see why a parent would think it inappropriate though; Even I don't think kids should be able to find out what sound their teacher makes when he orgasms lol. But in that case, if students are actively accessing material that clearly states for 18 and older, then shame on them and not the teacher. Parents should moniter their children's internet activities to make sure they don't access things like porn and other adult material if its really that big of a deal.

I would personally use it as a great opportunity to sit my kid down and talk about choices, not aim to get a teacher fired. But I don't have kids yet so who knows if I'll feel the same way once Paternal instinct kicks in.

I'd like to hear the opinions of a gay parent about this topic...one not from a large metropolitan area. (Yeah, I'm gonna get shit for that, but oh well.)

Honestly, this is not so unreasonable or ignorant. I mean he got canned because he did gay porn, not because he is gay.

This might be the conservative in me, but I don't think a teacher should have a past in lewd activities. I know I'd feel weird if my kids had a teacher who did porn (easily accessible on the internet).

theantijock said[...] The issue is not sex, it is judgement. Teachers teach not just subjects, but how to think. He didn't think someone would notice his erection? The school acted correctly.

    Judgement, OK:

He is open with his past. He's gay and acts on it, probably without regret.
He's not a pedophile, children's fathers' don't have to fear that their wives will be seduced by him.
Should a parent be substantially more worried by a teacher without such a documented past? Are 'regular' 'normal' adults actually more worrisome as teachers since they might be frustrated closeted perverts who might pounce on either children or parent when least expected?

Bigots. Reform the system, keep the guy.

    Absolutely not.
However, it's widely known that a career in porn will ruin any chances of some careers in the future. Doing some research into what jobs ARE available for past adult workers would be very advisable before starting a career in porn.

I like the lady in the video that said, "this is Miami Beach, if that were a bar from employment everyone would be out of a job LOL"

And it's true...Miami Beach is a huge sex city. People are having sex all day, everyday. If anything, Florida should remove schools from that island. It's certainly not a place to bring up kids...Like seriously, what does the school board suspect? I doubt this will be the last incident of sorts.

vincent7 saidWould a heterosexual porn past have been given the same treatment? I doubt it.

I don't doubt it LOL. If it was some blonde, big booed 'co-ed' that used to do porn she'd been fired too...

Like the case that was dismissed said, if it didn't involve children his case would be stronger...

You have to understand it's not even just about the kids. It's REALLY about the OTHER teachers and staff. They are too uncomfortable with it. The parents. And I don't even think it was the kids who found it, it had to be some fag who works at the school...probably another teacher who found out and snitched.

However, I don't really see it as something to argue over. At this point it's out in the open and no school in America would hire him. He'd probably be better off moving to Italy or France where sex isn't as swept under the rug.

Exactly, when you start a career involving sex, especially sex on film...you have to realize that some things are going to be off limits later on.

You can't just come in and start changing the system. Most already know that jobs such as 'president of the US and teacher' are not the best jobs to go into. People may just see you as the creepy horn dog subsitute teacher that's going to be fondling himself under the desk. I know that's not true, but that's how kids think...

And FYI, I was dating a high school teacher that had nude pics all over adam4adam. His face was private...but still.

I guess the rule is: you can do it, but if you get caught you're fired.

Oh my gosh...now I've just lost sympathy. That's just silly. I can't keep watching this gossip.

He knew exactly what he was doing...If anything it was just a publicity stunt.

Is this any different than the teacher fired for posting an anti-gay rant on his Facebook?

Where is the citation for this? Unless you have the citation, this is gossip.

You bringing that up really makes me understand it a bit more.

Some jobs simply require you to maintain a higher moral/ethical standard. I may not fully agree with it and it may not always be fair, but thats just how it is.

Schools have an image to uphold; its done by trying to please countless different people at one time. If you're going to work with kids it helps not making statements or having a history that makes: co-workers uncomfortable, parents uncomfortable and also gives your students a weapon to use against you.

And being viewable on youtube is very easy access. So I can see the concern.

I don't see why it's such a hard thing to figure out for some WHY this guy was fired as a teacher for being a porn star. I don't even think it matters that much that he happened to be a GAY porn star. I don't know how he was discovered, but he was on the internet as late as last year promoting his porn site, so it's not so hard to imagine that any parent might have gotten wind of this, regardless of how, and perhaps would have been concerned that their child's teacher could be found having sex on the internet. File it under "Too Much Information" I guess. I think that most guys who do porn should probably know and understand that doing porn could come back to haunt them depending on what they decide to do career-wise in their post porn career.

I think most teachers have to sign a contract that has some stipulations in it and this may be one of the stipulations in his district. If it is not then he shouldn't have been fired since he did nothing illegal.

I am always shocked about how judgemental we have become as a society.
Really.....he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Many of my gay friends are so critical of the fact that I was a stripper. I have a black and white, artistic nude photo on my wall. Everybody compliments it, only my mother knew it was me. When they all know the truth the condemnation is a bit much.
