During my Labor Day weekend while I was on vacation I had a couple young adult cussing up a storm and being disrepectful to people on the street and in the shopping malls and department store and I think that they shouldn't be so disrepectful of the older people or the younger generation like my generation. I think if people are going to be disrepectful then something should happen. I was in Younkers and Target last weekend and there were these teenagers in front of me with a shopping cart and they were allowing their kids to run the cart up my heels because the parent was on the phone and she couldn't handle them. Everytime I go out to eat I hear nothing but screaming kids and parents on phones I don't know what to say but I'm tired of hearing it in restaurants, department stores and shopping mall. You young folks are so damn disrespectful. You’re not going to disrespect me. I come from the school where you said, ‘’Yes, ma’am. No, ma’am.’’ ‘’Yes, sir.’’ No, sir.’’ You showed some respect or you got your teeth knocked out of your mouth. Do you understand me?’’ I can’t stand young folks sitting around at the bus stop, got old people sitting there, and they’re cussing, pants hanging off. You’re going to show me some respect. I got silver hair but I also have silver bullets. Do you want one of them?’’ I overheard a woman tell her kids that and I figured that maybe this generation better straighten up because I'm tired of their rudeness in the United States and I think it's time we do something.

I think you answered your own question when you stated that you were in Target and the parents were allowing their kids to run all over you with the cart. Good behavior starts at home with the parents. If the parents are not disciplining their kids then the kids will grow up thinking that these kinds of behaviors are acceptable.

I'd expect this kind of rant from a senior citizen, not a 24 year old.icon_question.gif

When a child isn't brought up with manners or respect, they won't grow up to be a person with any either.

Wow, if we could only control the world. I don't agree with the uncivil conduct that I see today, but all I can do is try to be the best that I can be, and try to be a living example by being kind, polite, and nice to others. Sounds like you need to lighten up a little bit and know that there are plenty of great, beautiful people around.

Whining like a baby at someone for not saying "yes, sir" is an easy way to lose someone's respect.

I get where you are coming from an see alot of the same. But, on the flip side, have met some amazing, talented, grounded, well mannered teens and young adults as well.

Everyone's capable of being disrespectful. I've experienced it from people of all ages. Stop being such a Daily Mail reader.

When you criminalize parenting, when we support/promote kids having kids, and when we vilified traditional values, what do you expect. Buy tougher boots.

In some ways, I really enjoy living in Japan for this reason: people are still very respectful of each other.

Tiny things... like when people exit an elevator, they push "close door" as they walk out so as not to make others wait. Such little gestures of care are awesome.

After living in Los Angeles/West Hollywood...It's safe to say that anyone can be a prick ... why target one specific group? Haven't we learned our lesson in some college class about how generalizations are just ridiculous?

I'm 20...nice to meet you, I'm (apparently) EXTREMELY disrespectful icon_smile.gif

    don't message me! fair warning!

    p.s. you're from iowa

Kids will be kids - what do you expect? There are some nice ones and not-so-nice ones. Social maturity takes longer these days. Chances are everyone's had their bratty moments at some point in their youth. Some older folks certainly seemed to haven't matured past 10 years old.

    1. You're 24

    2. Disagree with your suggesting violence to minors for not being taught manners

    3. You should think about how you should handle these situations going forward, you're not accomplishing anything here

    4. Move to Japan icon_biggrin.gif

I'm on this new diet where the only thing I eat is carbs...and fat...and protein. And maybe the occasional vegetable and fruit.

it may be that i don't notice too many shitty things beyond bad drivers because caring about tyat stuff just sits on your mind and gives you cancer, but i dont find much wrong with any generation.

old people are obnoxiously socially hardened, baby boomers are obnoxiously seeking youth, and youngings are taught to be individuals and so they get all crazy...

there are 300 million people in this country, sorry you know all the shitty ones

Where I was raised, people used plurals, periods, and paragraphs. Apparently we weren't so civilized as you Iowans.
