    Hey guys,

So i've been reading a lot lately, about Milk. It has been coming up a lot in fitness forums and magazines and I am confused by some of the things that I came across. Some sources say we should drink Skim Milk everyday.. Others recommend Whole Milk as being better for you. What do you think about this and/or what have you encountered?

    Thanks! icon_smile.gif

Whole milk is not better for you, there's almost nothing extra in terms of nutritional value in the dairy fat. All you get is more calories.

On the other hand, there is a huge nutritional difference between egg whites and whole eggs and eating whole eggs is healthier.

You're gonna get a hodgepodge here. People who swear it's the devil and people who drink a gallon a day. I drink skim every day and soy milk most every day because I love the taste.

I used to love milk, especially chocolate, but now I am working on giving up dairy.

What drinks milk past infancy and from another species?

Ding ding ding. Humans. It is weird...

It's almond milk for me. It actually tastes great and has the same amount of calcium and protein as milk.

I mix my whey protein in skim milk for after workout. Get my protein and calcium all at once.

Milk is nasty stuff. I eat my cereal and make my protein shakes with almond milk. I just cannot resist cheese! I can't stomach whole milk/skim of any kind.

    1% Lactaid for me!

I tried Almond Milk... or at least the unsweetened vanilla flavor. Yuck! I can't stomach that stuff no matter how much I try... icon_sad.gif God bless you people that can...

I buy a gallon of fat free milk and a gallon of fat free chocolate milk every time I go to the grocery store.

Chocolate milk is still the best post workout recovery drink you can have. Best ratio of carbs, fats and proteins.

Though with a body like field123, I might be tempted to start buying 2%! icon_eek.gif

I switched to Almond milk a few months ago and like it just fine... although it's a little skimpy on the protein but that can be amended.
I do also LOVE Hemp milk... it's very tasty and nutritious but higher in calories too.

So I alternate the two for variety.

3% homogenized milk. I'm trying to gain weight. Plus I like the taste of it.

I've drank everything from skim to rice milk to freshly milked out of the udder of a Holstein on a family friend's dairy farm. I had problems with lactose intolerance when I was younger, but since eating wheat have had no problems with lactose digestion at all (I don't get it...)

I use a splash of half and half in my coffee, since anything less than that just coats the tongue and prevents you from enjoying the full coffee taste. Coffee + dairy fat just tastes better.

I like the Almond: hazel nut, vanilla flavors. Rice milk is decent, too.

Ice cold milk is delicious, but only when you get it from a close source. I grew up in PA with dairy farms everywhere. In truth, we are the only animal that continues to drink milk past being weaned off of it - that alone makes me think its not natual for us to drink a lot of it... But I've also never seen a nipple on an almond, so I find its ok to indulge. Dairy in general is not the best thing for you, but milk alternatives are not either. Soy milk will raise you estrogen levels.

When i drink milk, I drink a product called Mootopia. Its lactose free and has less sugars and more proteins in it. I usually just drink it when I am washing down a cookie or having a shake. Water just doesn't cut it.

Check out this site for both sides of the argument http://milk.procon.org/

Milk messes with me but I love all of its incarnations so I deal with it. 1%, about a gallon every three days, mixed with cereal, whey powder, whatever blends, anything to gain mass.

    I drink 1% milk.

I normally go for a glass of milk per day, plus I add about 16oz of milk to my protein shake post workout.

I always make sure I get a glass of milk in at night before bed. Milk is high in Casein protein which releases a lot slower, and therefore feeds your muscles over a longer period (I believe it is like 8 hours) while you sleep, rather than your body starving of protein.

I drink 2 gallons of skim milk every week. I get my fat from other sources like nuts, seeds and healthy oils.
If you don't have a digestion problem with it, milk protien is like red meat in that it has a complete profile of amino acids. Chicken, fish, eggs and high protien beans (unless the beans are eaten with rice or corn) are foods that have some amino acids but may need to be supplemented with others. If you eat a lot of these foods you may want to supplement with at least branched chain amino acids.
