I've always treated my health and fitness goals/progress as a very private, self-motivated matter. I'm doing it for me.

I've noticed that my boyfriend isn't happy with how it's going for him, though, and I want to be constructive and supportive.

Do you guys know of any good ways for me to do this without pretending I'm his personal trainer?

Some ideas I am playing with are:
-chart our progress together... maybe keep a journal or something
-set a date and goal that we both work towards

I considered buying him nice clothes that fit a little snug, but that might do more damage than good. What do you all think?

Talk to him. Tell him what you have said here, that he seems unhappy. Ask him what you can do to help. Some people work better with goals and rewards, some don't.

I think you should be clear to him that you love him and want to be supportive in his goals, not that you want him to base his fitness goals on making you happy.

Maybe he would benefit from a personal trainer.
