I haven't blocked anyone on RealJock until today, but I busted my cherry and blocked the most obnoxiously conceited person I have ever encountered on the internet.

    Yeah!!

    Was it the Guy101 person?

I just saw you two posting in the other thread. Sorry that it turned out that way. icon_sad.gif

Now I can say all of those nasty things I've been thinking about Alpha Muscle and he'll never see!

What a coincidence... I'm not the type of person that will block or will place someone on the ignore list unless they try their very best to piss me off and this guy you mention did just that. He was my very first Block/ignore after I won MOTD.

Ugh. This one time Alpha Muscle and I were having lunch at Burger King and he kept on sneaking my french fries but it was so obvious to me. When he double dipped in my ketchup, I called him out but he got indignant and caused a scene in front of all of the gentlemen and women of Burger King. Then he stormed out grabbing FISTFULLS of vinegar and sugar packets. It was just so tacky.

I can understand the OP commenting about using a forum feature, and I think it was appropriate that he did not indicate the specific person he blocked. What I find curious is why a few often have to mention who they have blocked. I can see it in the case of an argument when one decides to have nothing further to do with the other, and mentions he is going to use the ignore feature. I'm referring to mentioning it gratuitously in a thread where the parties are not directly involved with each other. Seems like it's bragging, but why brag about something that does not involved an accomplishment?

Saw a real obvious case of this a few days ago where a message was created only for this purpose. A member creates a message in a thread including approximately a dozen quotes (I was not involved, btw.) This guy highlights in red the username of the guy he blocked wherever it appeared in the quote string, 5 or 6 times, and, then took pride in referring to the blocked member as "it". He said, "I didn't know it was still around. The forum block works so well for me." I'm sure he has also blocked me, as he has mentioned that he blocks everyone whose politics he disagrees with. He is also proud of the number he has blocked and mentions that from time to time.

It's just one forum behavior I find curious. It really seems to be broadcasting immaturity, just like one first grader sticking his tongue out to another then putting his hands over his eyes to let the other one know if he responds, it won't be seen.

    Oh shit he heard me!icon_eek.gif

I've never blocked anyone here. I feel like it puts me at a disadvantage.

If I did block someone, I would probably PM them to let them know so that they are aware why I don't respond to future things they say. Unless it's just a spambot, but they'd get taken out quickly anyway.

The most pathetic example of that I've seen here is when one of the biggest trolls on RJ (who definitely has his --shall we say-- geopolitical bent icon_rolleyes.gif ) actually made a screenshot of his own ignore list and uploaded it TO HIS PROFILE(!) with a caption denigrating all the people on the list. I couldn't believe the photo was passed by RJ, lol. --It was a blatantly obvious breach the TOS, but there it was: "APPROVED!"

Admin definitely misses the mark from time to time. icon_lol.gif

That must have been very interesting. In the case I had in mind, the guy who was always bragging about who and how many he blocked also mentioned he was or is in therapy, so I guess some of the more far out behavior can be explained that way.

That's a boon to me. To be advertised as someone a nutjob doesn't like, it's almost like directing visitors to check you out.

Meh. I don't see that to be a problem, actually....no more so than my recent post begging people to click "report spam" or posts bitching about the ineffectiveness of the RJ platform to control The Reaper.

Alpha's post was only that he used the feature. Yeah, since it was hot on the heels of a hot'n'heavy convo with one guy in another thread, someone inferred who was blocked (but I don't think Alpha's post implied who.) And then there was a tiny feeding frenzy, but pretty tame by RJ standards.

But I read Alpha's post as any "I'm not a virgin" post. In this case: "wow, it finally happened that that threshold was reached for me...I know what you guys were talking about now."

Seems like a pretty normal RJ thread. (You've been meh'd.)

    Word.

I quoted Soulasphyxi and commented on the topic because I had a similar encounter with the individual he mentioned when he spammed my Thank you thread with his allegations of cheating and out of context comments insinuating I shouldn't have won. For me that's more than enough to end the conversation block/ignore you and move on.

I accidentally selected Remove All from my Forum block list (meaning I unblocked everyone). I figured, what the hell, give people a second chance.

It didn't take long to repopulate that list with the same offenders. icon_wink.gif

In all of the time on RJ, I have tried really hard to be polite and kind to the other members. On the forums I have wanted to be a guy thought of as encouraging and supportive.

So when I blocked someone, it was out of extreme frustration and it was disheartening.... it was something I really didn't want to do.

My post was reallly about processing those emotions, not to slam anyone. That is unkind.

for those who think I am immature for making a thread about it, maybe my problem was that I posted it in the form of a joke... i really feel guilty for blocking a member, but he was insufferable and it was unhealthy to read anything. He sought me out to flame me on private messages... it wasn't healthy. But I dont want to be a dick.
