It's probably the best sports movie in at least a decade and only falters near the end as it struggles to resolve its main conflict in the context of its "big fight" finale. But 98% plays like gangbusters. Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton both give star-making performances here. Hardy channels a young DeNiro (which means he's channeling a young Brando as well) and gives us a nice glimpse into how truly menacing he's going to be as Bane next summer. Edgerton's character is less flashy but also easier for the audience to relate to. And holy shit is Nick Nolte awesome as their recovering alcoholic father. I couldn't recommend it more highly.
