God I hate when we're stereotyped like this. This is why so many gay men are hesitant to come out. If this same ad had shown black people eating watermelon and fried chicken and saying "lawdy lawdy it sho be hot today" this commercial would have been banned in seconds! Why is it okay to stereotype some minority groups and not others?

Down to basics: did this series of ads increase or decrease gay buy-in to the product?

I don't count because I hate Doritos, but find the commercials at least amusing.icon_smile.gif

This is what I get from the commercial-

A gay guy can eat Doritos as he pleases and maintain a 6 pac while a straight dude can only dream of such a thing.

    Am I missing something?

    Hilarious.

Besides, if it had been black people eating watermelons and fried chicken saying "Oh lardy lardy" it would've still been funny and you probably would've laughed.

I think the ad is funny, but then, I have no problem with swishy guys. I also think the swishy little boy was great on the recent season finale of Curb Your Enthusiasm:

The only thing offensive about this ad is that the gays are in cut-off denim shorts. Yuck!

Other than that, I cracked up especially over Asian girl's face. Flamboyant gays don't bother me at all, so I thought they were pretty funny too.

Too bad the reality is that I couldn't get away with eating Doritos while maintaining a body like theirs.

Let me sum up the outrage of the typical RJ queens who get the vapors over everything:

Two femmy twinks? Not all of us are limp wristed book marks enjoying the pool while our parents are working. Where are the bears, otters, daddies?

Dude with shears? Why is Latino? NOT ALL LATINOS ARE GARDENERS PEOPLE! Nothing but perpetuating an anti illegal alien stereotype.

Asian wife? Asian women have been viewed as concubines and servants for generations. Why is she bringing him anything? Women are empowered and men's equals. She should have been carrying a breifcase or SHE should have been cutting the hedge!

Pink bowl? Pink is not the only color in our gay rainbow. This is Doritos perpetuating gay men are like women.

Fruity drinks? Not all gay men need an umbrella in a fancy glass. Some of is drink beer for fucks sakes. We are not like the girls in sex in the city drinking pastel colored cocktails all the time. Again, this portrays gays as women and not real men.

I am boycotting Doritos, bad bathing attire and twinks. LETS SEND A MESSAGE!

Meh. There are plenty worse stereotypes that could have jammed in there.

I found it humorous, but at the same time kind of cringe-inducing due to the stereotypes used. I wonder if the same effect could have been achieved if less stereotypically gay actors had been used by the pool in a more subtle approach rather than the in-your-face stereotypes approach for laughs.

I seriously doubt it. The ad's only thirty seconds long; they don't have very long to establish that the two guys by the pool are gay, and if they don't establish that then there's very little humor left.

    O M freakin' G

Quit Analyzing! No wonder y'all didn't find it funny, you were TOO BIZZY ANALYZIN'!

Humor is a wisp of smoke. Stare at it and it BLOWS AWAY.

    Whew, I feel better. Don't y'all?

I think I can find something humorous while at the same time be disappointed in the stereotypes used to get the laugh.
