Im naturally fair skinned, and I hate it! In order to tan, I must go to the tanning bed a lot, and I also sometimes use a "can" (spray) tan. If I stop tanning I quickly return to my natural fair skin state. Whenever I stop tanning guys always say "I wish you were tanner" or say, "you need to go to to the tanning bed!" as if they are some sort dermatanologist. Ive become really sensitive about my fair skin and always burning/tanning gets annoying, it seems all gay men ONLY like tan guys. Is this true? And what really is better being tan or fair skinned (pale)?

Well, pale is safer. I wouldn't let others comments force you to tan. Your health is much more important than what someone thinks.

Do you mind me asking if you are tanned in your profile photos?

Either way you are a good looking guy and there are gay guys that like pale. My partner likes me pale.

Tan if you are smooth, white if you are hairy icon_smile.gif

Ok, not really. Tan or white, as long as you are in decent shape, who cares about color!!!

Consistent with the other responses, be yourself.

"I really wish you were tanner," is a lame thing to tell anyone.

For me, a hot guy can be any skin color and still hot.

Hmmm...I used to take myself through all these changes trying to meet the standard of beauty established by pop culture. However, I have discovered it really is not worth it. I am still a little ignorant of what is considered "ideal" in gay culture (and whether it is actually different from "mainstream culture). However, I will say that you are not a bad looking dude.

I'm sure I've made this comment before, but it's worth you hearing again:

I'm as white as all hell and hated it, then I went to Japan where the standard of beauty revolved around having white, clean skin. From that experience, I learned to love my skin and at the end of the day, I'm not interested in anyone who doesn't like me for me.

There is no safe level for using a tanning bed. Some people say that it's good to use it get a base tan - but it's not. Do your own research. Speak with a few people who've had cancer. You won't find too many recommendations. Avoidable cancer is just stupid.

Realize that we all have aspects of ourselves that we dont like.

I would just say live with it. Use the spray tan if that is suitable...I have never seen it.

And if the topic comes up, just forthrightly say that you dont tan.

To me there's nothing more sexy than a pale defined/muscular guy. Tanned guys sometimes can look like Krispy Creme donoughts if they go overboard with it. It all depends on the guy of course - color or skin tone is not that big an issue with me.

If you worship the tanning bed, you better pray you don't get cancer.

What's hot is just being happy with what you have.

What's better is whatever you were born with. However, I could use a new pair of boots, so tan away!

Personally, i think that as long as you look healthy, it doesn't really matter if you're tan or fair. As long as you dont look anemic, you're fineicon_biggrin.gif

If people are telling you that, it's because of your location (Nashville). The south has some strange affinity for Tanning Beds. Much more than other parts of the country.

Sadly, when you think about it, the concentration of tanning beds seems to be directly proportional to the income level and education of a particular area. Hence the over-abundance of Tanning Salons in the hottest part of the US: The South!

    That's my analysis, anyway.

And, yes, as someone else already mentioned, orange is NOT the same as tan. And with really fair skin, you'd have a tendency to head towards orange rather than brown.

Just say NO to fake bakes. Spray on or cooked.

Just take pictures via warm lighting and you'll look tan. I prefer skin without wrinkles or cancer.

I'm in the sun a lot, and I wear sunscreen daily. A tan is sort of the side effect of my lifestyle. I actually like having some color, but I also had a non-lethal skin cancer removed from my face recently, so I am even more diligent about wearing protection. If you like the look, use the spray can stuff - it's harmless. I know a guy who uses it just a little, and it looks fine, but I've seen guys overdo it, and it looks really bad, so just go easy on it if you like it.

Only go to the trouble if YOU feel better, though. It should add to your self-confidence. Don't use it because some loser basically dissed you for being light complected. Do what you like to feel good about yourself. If you feel good, others will pick up on it and find you more attractive.

Have fun with skin cancer but you live in Tennessee where I hear the healthcare system is most excellent or something.
