    does anyone even use that anymore? I thought about doing it for a while, but realized that I had never seen anyone with a hanky like that. Just thought I'd see if people even do that anymore.

    I was clueless about it when it was in vogue, but I used carry bandanas (assorted colors) for reasons of personal hygiene.
    No wonder I used to get some strange looks...

    In general, the color code will never die in the fetish community..

    Yellow=piss.
    Red=fist
    Blue=fucking.
    Grey=leather.

    If you buy leather or rubber clothing, black with white stripes is fairly innocent.

    Though it was interesting to walk into a country/western store in Texas and see a table of handkerchiefs of every color imaginable.

    "Why are you giggling?".

    doh. "Sorry ma'am..."

    To expand a *little* on this:

    ■■■■ = Solid Black - General purpose leather/BDSM inclusive of, and often understood to default to BB (bareback)

    ■■ = Piss/WS

    ■■ = Fisting (implies shedding of blood)

    ■■ = Fucking, anal sex in particular

    ■■ = Olive Drab: military fetish

    □■■□ White trim = Safe sex only

    nah, I understand the code. I just wondered, since I'd never actually seen it IRL, if it was long gone. bummer.

    any other ideas to subtly pick up guys? Totally new to this.

    I virtually never see colored hankies worn but the color code is definitely still used. The colors appear, for example, as stripes on jocks and leather gear, also as "tubing" decoration and lacing of leather wear. Sometimes even more obvious as the solid color of that apparel. It's all very obvious to those who look.

    Seriously, is this old code even still used?
    I heard they used they used this way-back-when in the 1980's! icon_eek.gif Yikes!

    AND, It also depends which pocket you tuck it into. Left, or right? icon_confused.gif

    I think it is in use in some of the leather bars when they have "Code Nights", though having said that, I do see some guys out with them on non-Code Nights and in non-leather bars. Yes, they're usually older guys and I'm not sure who else uses them.

    I remember talking about it one night with some friends - the colours, the pocket you wear it in meaning one thing or the other - it was funny and gave some insight into some of my friends as a couple of them were pretty expert at the whole thing icon_smile.gif

    Easy. Left for doms, right for subs. Apparently just about anything on left/right side works, no just bandanas. But, then again, this was for the '80s. icon_sad.gif

    I wish it were still that easy everywhere icon_biggrin.gif

    Agreed. A remnant of a bygone era, that you have to study to know about.

    But also a lesson of how repressed and secretive gay culture was. Like wearing a green carnation in the lapel during the time of Oscar Wilde over 100 years ago.

    Still, if right-wingers in the US drive us gays back into the closet, as they campaign to do, or worse, perhaps we'll be relearning these obsolete signs. I wouldn't be throwing your colored hankies out just yet.

    If you guys came to IML, you would see the Hankie Code is very much alive and well. Not to mention they will be on sale there all over the place.

    Yeah, that hasn't been active since the 70s. The earring thing is over, too. Left ear? Right ear? Hell if I know.
