Pre-empting by sports programs

I realize this might be an odd place to ask this, but...does anyone else get annoyed by how often everything else on network television gets pre-empted by sports programs?

I'm not talking here about how channels will choose to schedule around football or basketball or baseball games or whatnot. I may not be thrilled with that, but at least it's on the schedule, and I can plan around it.

What I'm talking about is how it seems that the majority of games take longer than the time allotted to them, running into later programs. Even worse, even after the scheduled game is over, stations will frequently flip to another game also in progress, or a post-game analysis, rather than going to what their scheduled program is.

I admit I'm not the typical guy here. I enjoy playing sports, but I don't much care for watching them, with the exception of the Olympics.

I've heard fans I've asked in the past about this respond along the lines of "Oh, but this isn't just any game, it's the playoffs." Well, with the playoffs in baseball, basketball, football, hockey, the tennis grand slam events, the majors in golf...virtually any time of year is a special time for at least some sport.

Does this bother anyone else, or am I alone in this one?

Apparently, I am indeed alone in this.

    No you're not.
This is probably one of the main reasons I don't watch TV live anymore or even try to schedule my Windows Media Center to record programs. Thank god for torrents.
CBS and Fox are the worst culprits.

you are not alone . . . but I am surprised by the lack of responses . . . apparently even gay men are not immune to the bread and circus distractions of life in a decadent, dying empire . . .

. . . pro football, in particular, is a symptom of the loss of the old America . . . why? pro football is a means for the fat masses to participate in a blood sport without the real sacrifice that justifies such things . . . even cock fighting is a more honest sport . . .

ersatz engagement with the rawness of life is not life . . .

Running overtime is a pain in the neck. Get the damn game finished, and drop the dumb commentary and commercials if necessary.
