    The Conscience of a Liberal
    The Years of Shame

Is it just me, or are the 9/11 commemorations oddly subdued?

Actually, I don’t think it’s me, and it’s not really that odd.

What happened after 9/11 — and I think even people on the right know this, whether they admit it or not — was deeply shameful. The atrocity should have been a unifying event, but instead it became a wedge issue. Fake heroes like Bernie Kerik, Rudy Giuliani, and, yes, George W. Bush raced to cash in on the horror. And then the attack was used to justify an unrelated war the neocons wanted to fight, for all the wrong reasons.

A lot of other people behaved badly. How many of our professional pundits — people who should have understood very well what was happening — took the easy way out, turning a blind eye to the corruption and lending their support to the hijacking of the atrocity?

The memory of 9/11 has been irrevocably poisoned; it has become an occasion for shame. And in its heart, the nation knows it.

I’m [Krugman] not going to allow comments on this post, for obvious reasons.

Krugman is exactly right, and the worst of it is its been a huge loss for the US, Sadly behind the Bush/Cheney US reaction brought to us by the NEO CON's group "Project for the New American Century PNAC whose members are primarily pro Israeli's AIPAC 'subscribers wanted more than just war with Iraq and Afghanistan, they were pushing for IRAN and even though the group disbanded, the same people and Israel are pushing for war with Iran right now,( it's popped up under another name because it was so discredited for assisting Bush/Cheney in lying us into war)

Do your own research on the list of members of the PNAC that Bush/Cheney went along with and from which they chose many members of their war team/effort. What you'll find is astonishing !!! I was !!

The reaction will be costing approximately $5 trillion dollars when its all said and done, Terrorists spent about $500,000 to pull it off. SO WHO WON ? Bin Ladens stated goal was to break the US Financially, SO WHO WON ? The US lost a great amount of its moral high ground over secret black sites for prisoners to be tortured, such things as waterboarding around 200 times between two or three people they admitted too. These atrocities were a great recruiting tool for terrorists. The US lost a great deal of Cridibility as a peacful nation over these war adventures that didn't even gain us stability over the oil resources that were the real reason behind these misadventures. Speaking of loss of credibility many a poll taken across the globe shows that most of the world is very suspicious about Bush / Cheney where all of this including 9-11 are concerned. These two are afraid to travel in much of Europe because of warrants for their arrest as it is with Rumsfeld too.

Polls taken in the US show that the US group most likely to approve of what Bush/Cheney pulled off are the Christian Fundamentalists. Just think about this fact and this groups current influence through the TBaggers on those running for Republican Presidential Nominee.

I dare say that its more patriotic to point out the wrongs and try to correct them than it is for the far righters to continue to defend Bush/Cheney and PNAC actions, in the face of so much negative proof. Coverups do not add up to Patriotism.

    Great post !!

and more striking is from the Military family of the fallen Pat Tillman who was seeing the light and becoming outspoken against the war, Read his mothers book or portions of it, not nearly all of even the Military buy into the Bush/Cheney conspiracy theories to back 911 and their god damn wars.
