Natural change of hair color

One of my friends got me thinking about this. Her hair color changed dramatically from childhood to adulthood. She had platinum blond hair as a baby and now has nearly black hair as an adult.

I know genes that determine hair color can turn on/off over time. But I think it's pretty interesting how my friend's example is extreme. I know a lot of people have gone from blond/e to brunet/te as they age. I wonder if the reverse (brown to blond) ever happens?

My hair color hasn't changed much over the course of my life. It's always been black. However, it was jet black when I was younger. Around my teenage years, I started to notice some tones of brown and red on my bangs/fringe and sides.

that's normal. Their genes didn't change or anything, it's just young children usually have lighter hair that gets darker as they get older. The hair you grow into, I think that is your natural hair.

    from Wikipedia:

Blond hair is most common in Caucasian infants and children, so much so that the term "baby blond" is often used for very light colored hair. Babies may be born with blond hair even among groups where adults rarely have blond hair although such natural hair usually falls out quickly. Blond hair tends to turn darker with age, and many children's blond hair turns light, medium, dark brown or black before or during their adult years.

It's just interesting how that happens. My hair color has changed very little since I was born.

Meanwhile, I did find out that apparently a lot of gingers can become blond and vice-versa over time.

My hair was jet black when I was little, now it's brownish with reddish tones, I don't dye it and it looks weird cuz my eyebrows are still black icon_neutral.gif LOL

My hair was blue months ago, and without doing anything to it, I now have short, dark brown hair. It's magic.

My hair actually changes color at a certain length. My normal hair color is dark brown, but once it pases a certain length the ends began to change bronze color, the contrast is really noticeable. I haven't let my hair grow to that length in years though.

I went the direction that your friend did, dirty blonde to dark brown.

I was basically bleach blonde as a child. At around 9 it went brown pretty fast. My hair has technically gotten lighter again since then, but I think it just soaks up more sun than it used to. It used to always be brown until this year it actually got REALLY blonde this summer from all the beach and pool time. Now everyone says I am officially blonde again.

I had blond hair until age 11 or so, and then it turned into a reddish colour.

When my hair is longer now, it's quite red, but when it's short, it looks more strawberry blond (has to do with how the light hits it, I think).

Red Head when I was younger to strawberry blond now. Probably will end up like my parents with brown blond hair when I get older.
