And Canada too?...IGA: smaller, easier to get in and out of and friendly cashiers (gay and straight).

Those stores and the farmers market are the only places I can get decent quality food.

I haven't gotten to the point in my life where I have enough disposable income to shop at cool indie fair trade sustainable local organic markets (read: $6 for an apple), so the large chain monopolistic (read: cheap) answers I could give will not be popular.

Publix, where shopping is a pleasure :-)
    That's their motto, I promise.

Ukrops before they were sold. They acted like they actually appreciated your business. And customers were never allowed to carry their groceries to their car. I always felt silly when a 16 year old bagger half my size insisted on carrying my groceries.

I scan the flyers each week to see who has what on sale and then I take said flyers either to Walmart or No Frills because they "price match" competitors and I get the stuff there for the same price PLUS since they're not "on sale" there they usually have stock on hand.. Hate it when you go to the store for the sale items and they've run out and have to depend on a rain check...

Usually our Walmart doesn't even ask to see the flyer or competitors price, they just take your word for it and ring it up.

And since I live on the border I usually go to Kroger for items not available here etc though the prices aren't all that much better. If not Meijer.

    King's Supermarket!!!
They are only located in NNJ, but when I go up North to visit the family in Saddle River, NJ every two weeks, I place the order online or over the phone, they deliver it within 2 hrs., charge it to the account. Simple as that.
They even pack the groceries into my vehicle once at my parent's home!
It's wonderful. HUGE selection or organic and vegetarian foods! icon_biggrin.gif

As soon who loves to shop at the grocery store, Wegmans is absolutely amazing. I get so excited every time I go! There's just no place like it. I fell in love at first first when I first moved to Fairfax, VA. Two years ago they opened one in my hometown of Fredericksburg! I'm glad they've opened more stores in VA and MD now icon_cool.gif

I think I'm going to make a trip there tonight even though I have no reason to go!

Gerrity's is a local store where I live and I love shopping there. I also like Wegman's, even though I don't shop there often I just think it's a fun store to go through because of how big it is icon_biggrin.gif

My area is saturated with Giant Eagle stores. But, I'm a huge fan of Trader Joe's. I've been to a Publix in SC and it seemed nice.

Where I come from, you have your choice of Giant or Safeway. Personally I choose Safeway because of the following reason:

    1. Better quality of generic food items. Giant brand foods always seem to be lacking in flavor and overall quality.

    2. Cleaner and nicer structure and facilities.

    3. Friendlier staff

    4. Safeway gas

    5. "Safe"-way

It's really a small bodega a couple of blocks down from my place. They make the best sandwiches and at for a great price. I find myself coming there after the gym or work to buy dinner in the form of a sandwich a lot.

For every day shopping I like Publix and for harder to find items I like Earthfare and the Fresh Market.
