    What would happen?

Hmmm..up here, wedding planners experienced a delightful surge in business, as did caterers, limousine service, hall rentals etc.

    Now THAT"S good, Trollileo!

    lol, 'ba-dum, tish!'

Off topic but what are the words to a car door opening and closing?

    'carunka...clunt'

The words for a spoon on a plate? 'clish'

Windshield wipers 'tehplistska, fwid, tehplistka, fwid'

Now back to the topic, if gay marriage were legalized..

I have been saying this forever. If Mr. President wants to make jobs there should be more opportunity for people to spend and request services.
I just went to a state university, but it sure seems simple to me.

    Yes, this too, two fold:
1- divorce of closeted gay/lesbians who married opposite sex partners due to social pressures and shame of their own sexual orientation.
2- more same sex couples eventually getting divorced for (probably) the same reasons heterosexual get divorced.

By the way, my goal is to be a gay divorce lawyer! I have done family law for 20 years,... I would be proud to represent our community in court!

    No.... but they will.

I told everyone one of my clients during my dads practicing law.

"I will not help you make your life decisions.. Life decisions are SHOULD I get a divorce or SHOULD I take custody of the children or SHOULD I get married. I just help you implement YOUR decisions."

and I had a healthy number of clients who would stop the divorce in the middle of the case to work on their marriage. The courts and most lawyers are supportive of that effort and will put everything on hold for a period of time to allow the couple to see if they can reconcile.

That said, people are going to get divorced and they need help with it when it happens. And there will be unique problems with homosexual divorces.

Ah! That makes a lot more sense. Divorce is a very unfortunate thing, and I do wish that more married couples (especially straight couples, since they CAN get married) put in the effort to keep their relationship.

That said, I guess it is inevitable, and having someone who's more familiar with the group would definitely be more appropriate.

Also, I'm starting to think you really are a great guy! I'd like to talk to you more personally sometime!
If you don't mind, that is...

The lunatic religious fundamentalists would probably predict that the New Madrid fault in the mid Mississippi Valley would violently rupture with a 9.0 richter scale earthquake which would symbolize the lord's strong disapproval of nationwide gay marriage.

The bolded line.. can you flesh that out for us? What unique problems? Are you talking about now because of the patchwork of laws?

    Welll,

Homosexual couples cannot physically have children, but they can adopt. There is a, in some states, a body of law for same sex adoption but not everywhere. Once you adopt, there is probably a unique body of law for each state to determine custody. The factors for determining the custody of a child(ren) may be different when the roles of the parents are less clear. For instance, whether it is true or not, the mother is almost always considered the "primary caregiver" but in a same sex marriage that gender role wont exist.

There will be a body of law that will develop that sort of "bridges the gap" between traditional two gender marriages and single gender marriages. None of it will be insurmountable, but it will provide some challenges for the familly court lawyers of each state. It has begun in most states, but it iwll be ramped up once marriage is legal everywhere.

    Sometimes absolutely yes.
Sometimes couples just shouldn't have married in the first place and got 'stuck' out of shame to dissolve the marriage, or the inertia of being together.
Divorce is truly unfortunate, but an unmatched couple is hell.
I've known some people who got divorced (in all cases all the parties were/are good and decent people). Their marriages just were to the wrong people. Working on ones' relationship is always good, but no one should be expected to transform oneself into someone s/he is not. These people all had some unpleasant struggles at first but it worked out better for them all (happier and more fulfilled).

If it's broken, fix it. If it wasn't meant to fit, dissolve it and restart from zero, wiser.
