Is an unlocked iphone worth it on a network other than AT&T/Verizon?

I have an android phone on T-Mobile which is probably the best phone i've ever had, but in all other areas of my tech life i am totally apple. i would like to be able to have everything more in sync (music, contacts, photos, etc.) and it seems like it would just be easier with an iphone. And the iphone, like all things mac, just seems more intuitive to me.

So it's settled, i want an iphone. But i'm on T-Mobile.

I've heard rumors that T-Mobile may be getting the iphone, but it seems everything's up in the air until this takeover by AT&T (boo) gets settled. Since I still have a year left on my contract, I'm stuck with T-Mo, so I can't leave for Verizon (or Sprint if you believe the other rumors) for awhile.

My android phone has been breaking down slowly over the past few weeks so i may actually need a replacement phone soon. I've considered an unlocked iphone, since it'll run on T-Mobile's network, but I believe there may be limitations with an iphone on a carrier that's not officially an iphone carrier.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Will I be stuck with an iphone that is slow and won't work like other iphones if i get an unlocked one? Or should i just tough it out with the dying android and replace it with another cheap phone when necessary then move to an iphone carrier when my contract is up? Thanks.

Dude.....I've posted many times on here about how I have an iphone on T-Mobile. And I've had it for YEARS. I pay 79.95 a month for unlimited talk, unlimited text and unlimited internet. And no, they don't charge me extra just because I have an iphone.

All of the iphone features that work on AT&T work on T-Mobile. If you're happy with the coverage you get with your current phone on T-Mobile, you won't see any difference with the iphone.

How do you know if the phone is unlocked and where can you get an unlocked iPhone?

You can buy them from Apple $826 and $964 respectively here...

The calls I get from my friggen customers... I spend $30 a month a want a free iPhone... I broke my Iphone you gave me two months ago, give me another or I'll leave

No one knows the value and service cost of those things icon_neutral.gif

There's no difference between a locked and an unlocked iPhone either... T-mobile at worst could refuse to answer your tech support calls about it and refer you to apple

I have my first iphone 3G unlocked and on T- mobile now. I have a pay as you go plan because my work Iphone has an unlimited plan so i don't need unlimited on both. Reception is way better on the Tmobile iphone that the ATT iphone.

When I used T-Mobile on the iPhone, I was on the Edge data network because their 3G networks were not compatible. Has this changed in the last year?
