So I check this site for the first time in a while and almost all the other Republicans are gone. I am not pleased.

Twenty years ago, I would have called myself a firm Republican. I mourned the day Bill Clinton won the presidency (and have pictures of me dressed in black to prove it).

But lo and behold, Bill Clinton turned out to be one of the most responsible (politically if not personally) and reasonable presidents in my lifetime so far and Republicans have staked their territory on pushing the social conservative issues, including fighting tooth and nail against gay marriage.

Dick Cheney infamously said "Deficits don't matter" while Bush 43 went about cutting taxes on the way to what is now a nearly $15 trillion national debt, a downgraded national credit rating, a recession that's lasted for going on four years now, and unemployment above 9%. When do deficits start to matter?

So tell me why it's good to be a Republican?

I think it wrong SB was deleted, but I'm sure we'll always have comments from the Republican side of the aisle here.

Maybe some of those who have left us finally decided that many of us actually live in the real world and we have compassion for those who need help.

I wasn't aware of his departure because he populated the Ignore List. What a loss.

I used to also be pretty republican. I still stand behind some of their values. But gay rights has made me lean more and more left. What happened to Fred Karger? Not only was he a gay republican, but he was pretty moderate on all of his views. I think a lot more people would move more towards the right if we had someone like Karger.

I'm aware many of SB's comments were biting and snide and slammed the democratic party about anyway he could. He had the right to do that if he chose and he never slammed me personally. I know he had issues with some of the guys here and clearly that led to his deletion.

As long as Republican politicians want to treat me like a second class citizen and beyond, they will NEVER get my vote. I really don't understand how any gays could support the current crop. It's like an African American voting for a member of the Klan.

I've got a fairly conservative set of views, but will absolutely NEVER vote for a Repub that tries associating their campaign and views off of all that evangelical crap. I mean someone who thinks that the Earth is less than 10,000 years old and that Evolution is "just a theory" is obviously not fit to run our country.

I certainly would have agreed with you, but I know some of our Republican friends here tend to mix that one point with the many, including things like
budgets, spending, defense. Many others. My viewpoint is to try and understand everybody's ideas and try and give a little empathy.

I can't tell if you're a Republican because you believe in The Way or if you just loathe liberals so much. Political correctness and all that.

There's not really a question in all this, but I do wonder if your straw men drove you that direction or if your mom and pop told you to listen to Rush Limbaugh at a young age.

What really pisses me off about these Republicans on this site, is that they NEVER want to, nor attempt to discuss how their party is anti-gay! Some even deny it! icon_eek.gif

They seem to think that the GOP and it's issues with the country should come first above the issues we as Gay people have.
Being Gay is as much a part of myself awareness as my height, hair and eye color, etc. So why be with a party who sees us as mistakes?
I'm sorry I do care about how this country is run, but I care about how I am treated and every other Gay US taxpayer is treated.

As long as these Gay Republicans are out of here with their self depricating views, I am very happy. (Yes by blindly following the Republican party, THAT IS ANTI-GAY, makes their views self depricating and insults the rest of us!)

I am an independent and damned proud of it. Granted I have taken some of the republican sides on here because I felt that some of the republican viewpoints were common sense. I am not a blind sycophant to either the democratic or the republican parties. I am strongly opposed to the narrow minded, bible thumping screwballs who keep poisoning the GOP with their idiotic, anti-gay rhetoric but I look at all the issues before voting for a political candidate. I will never support right wingers like Rick Perry, Sarah Palin, or Michelle Bachmann. Those three right wing lunatics are a horrible embarrassment and a lethal threat to the GOP.

And that my friend is a fundamental building block of this democratic republic... That is more important than 'financial' issues and will always be until this country is no more.
