I heard there is a way to donate used sneakers that aren't too severely beaten up.......
I am pretty much the "Imelda Marcos" of running shoes....and need to start getting rid of some shoes that have about 500 or more miles on them, but still look OK....90% are BROOKS.....

Also, Is there a best way to launder shoes?.....I was always told that washing the shoes in a regular washing machine would start breaking the shoes down and weaken the glued seams.....Thanks...

I thought this was going to be a fetish thread.

Beat up shoes can be recycled. They separate the rubber sole, grind them into bits, and use them for rubber padding in playgrounds.

Shoes that are in wearable condition can be donated at your local Goodwill or similar organizations.

Tie them together and throw them over a telephone wire.

    It's a thing: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoe_tossing

Sadly you can no longer make a pilgrimage to the sacred Shoe Tree in Fallon, Nevada as it was cut down by vandals.
