Barack Obama unveils $3 trillion deficit-cutting plan

    Specifically interesting is this:
    same link
The president said he would veto any plan that cuts Medicare benefits without raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans. And he pounded Boehner for a speech last week, accusing the speaker of a “my way or the highway” approach by ruling out any new revenues as part of a deficit-reduction deal.

He's also taken Social Security off the table.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/20/us/politics/in-deficit-plan-obama-drops-compromise-for-confrontation.html

It will be interesting to see if the Repubs back down, or if they're gun shy after the battering they took from the first portion of the debt deal fight.

Well its about time and about 2 years too damn late !! Had he stood up to them nearly a year ago, the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and Corps would not have been extended. Had he used his spine this last summer he would not have bowed to the TBAGGER spectacle during the debt crisis over raising the debt ceiling, He'd have told them that, "no your not pulling this contrived trick and embarassing our country, I'll use Amendment 14 and increase the limit myself" then of course the TBabblers tried to blame Obama for the downgrade.

Here before Obama at the UN is the very most important Foreign Relations issue since Bushes war with Iraq and that is Palestinian Statehood. The whole world watches as the Idiot congressmen and senators race each other to originate resolutions and legislation to cut aid to Palestinians, and Walsh just came up with one today to approve Israel's annexing all of the West Bank, all in an effort to back Israel to garner support from AIPAC, because doing so gets them money for all of their re election campaigns.

You will remember that AIPAC through one of its satelite funding groups sent many of these congressmen to Israel to get their support for extending munitions/military aid to Israel.

Obama has threatened to VETO Palestinians bid for statehood, claiming it must be gained only through negotiations with Isreal. Israel is currently taking land from Palestinian Occupied Territory for the purpose of building more settlement. How the hell are Palestinians supposed to negotiate with the thief taking their land ? Israel has snubbed all Obama's peace efforts including his offer of billions in Military aid and money if Netanyahu would stop the Settlements and go back to the negotiating table with Palestinians, yet Obama is going along with Israel who got themselves in this mess by their intransigence.

Will Obama develop some spine and cross Israeli AIPAC influence and either abstain from voting, vote for the Palestinian statehood, or will he cave and Veto a very peaceful move to gain statehood. After all Abbas has said time and again, statehood doesn't preclude negotiations, he plans to negotiate from 1967 lines as Obama suggested and Netanyahu snubbed.

YOU CAN BET THAT IF OBAMA VETO's PALESTINIAN STATEHOOD, YOU CAN KISS GOODBYE ANY US INFLUENCE IN THE MIDDLE EAST FOR YEARS TO COME. Remember all that talk in Egypt from Obama about peace in the Middle East? Who do you think will believe his intentions are anything but to follow Israels bidding if he goes against Palestinians peaceful bid for statehood to bring an end to this Occupation of their lands by Israel.

Lets hope Obama has enough newfound backbone to not VETO Palestines Statehood request at this weeks UN meetings. Let AIPAC complain through all its bought off congressmen and senators all they want, Obama needs to stand up for what is good for the US rather than let Israels intransigence threaten our Foreign Relations

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/09/19/president-obama-targets-p_n_969991.htmlWASHINGTON -- President Obama wants to extract $320 billion in savings from the health care system in his push to trim the deficit, starting with cutting payments to Medicare and Medicaid providers and ending with making beneficiaries pay more.

The biggest savings -- $135 billion over 10 years -- would come from letting Medicare pay for drugs at the same rates as Medicaid, which enjoys much greater rebates on generic and brand-name drugs.

The next largest source of savings -- $42 billion -- would come from nursing homes, rehab centers and long-term care facilities, which the administration thinks can be encouraged to be much more efficient in providing care right after people get out of hospitals.

After that, the plan includes a grab-bag of items, many of which sound familiar from the health care reform debate and target a mix of Medicare and Medicaid programs, with about $248 billion in savings coming from Medicare overall.

This is absurd, he mentiones budget cuts yet refuses to touche SS or Medicare, which are the two leaking potholes in the budget!

This man is an idiot, and everyone who follows him is too. I would sooner vote republican than vote for Obama again!

Obama care will destroy the nation too.

If anything negative can be said about Barack Obama is his willingness to compromise

    .... and I never understood why ....
He should have been the Anti-Bush Anti-Republican President
Instead we got half backed watered down policies that brought the republicans along
But made us limp along economically over the last two years
If he would have stuck to his democratic principles we would have had clear sailing already

There are a lot of budget cuts we can handle and survive with without actually adding cuts to Social Security and Medicare. And why is Social Security considered a pothole if the federal government keeps borrowing money from it.

With this link you raise a good point, and this is another place where Obama needs spine, but its oh so hard to find spine against your financial backers like the insurance industry, the huge Pharma industry, the sweetheart deals from our politicians to gain these Corp backing has cost Medicare (tax payers) huge amounts.

Think of the difference in Obama's backing from the democratic publics view, if he had used his spine in going against these huge Corps. regarding his Health Care Program, the Bush Tax Cuts for the Wealthy, the debt ceiling fiasco, the Israeli/Palestinian situation, and the list goes on and on.
