NC gay man speaks out against gay marriage

    http://www.kinston.com/news/gay-76401-column-way.html

Does anyone here want to respond to Simon Billing's and see if you can get him to understand that it is not all about him...that many people are harmed from unequal treatment. Individuals, couples, and society are harmed by this.

He's entitled to his opinions but he shouldn't force it on everyone else.

That article just makes you feel irritated. It feels like, "oh look we found a gay man who doesn't want gay marriage." This one will make you feel much better:

It frustrates me to no end when gay people discriminate against other gays more than people who hate us. If he doesn't believe in gay marriage, then when they legalize it don't get married. It's that simple.

Wow! Not only did he miss the boat regarding gay marriage...he's not even of the freaking dock! He is more worried about loosing his stuff! WOW!

His argument makes no-sense. When people with money worry about losing it after they marry and split... don't the have a pre-nupt in place first!

I thought he was going to have a tangible argument like the shelf life of most gay relationships are very long...that's why I oppose Gay Marriage. REALLY DUDE REALLY!

    I got nothin!

Hell, there are heterosexuals who are against heterosexual marriage and the whole notion and concept of marriage. Why should it be different for a person of any other sexuality.

Just because you are gay doesnt mean you have to like all things gay. So one gay dude has an opinion that varies from most. Big deal. Look how many gay guys are fat or cant put together an outfit or have never seen Romey and Michelle.

I know several guys against or indifferent to legalizing gay marriage. They`re entitled to their opinions, but very much in the minority.
They seem to have this fear that if marriage did become possible,it would soon be compulsory!

This is NOT from The Onion:

: “I love Arnold like a play cousin, but I don’t think a judge should be able to award him my entire Ric Flair commemorative plate collection just because we’re not in love anymore; Arnold sure didn’t spend all those Saturdays sifting through yard sales and flea markets to complete the set.”

    and this little gem:

" men are more likely to want to remain free to play the field. When you have two people with that mindset in a relationship, things can get sticky.”

    "THINGS CAN GET STICKY"????

This little article is written like a spoof, with a very tongue-in-ass-cheek sort of quality that is way too much fun to be unintended.

Whether or not this is seriously written, I certainly don't mind anyone questioning the fairness of property division in a divorce, a gay or straight divorce. Though obviously no one can make a strong case that losing property in a divorce to another man is any more harmful than losing it to a woman.

FUN ARTICLE. I think any hetero man reading it will come away thinking "WOW, they're just like me........but maybe more REDNECK."

"Dexter Thompson is a professional marriage counselor and amateur taxidermist in Beulaville."

    and

The boyfriend, Arnold the Roofer, is quoted thusly:

"“On a Sunday afternoon, all I want to do is lay on the couch with a beer and take in some figure skating like any normal guy,” Billings said. “Arnold always wants to get dressed up and go mingle with the straights at Walmart, which on my bucket list is somewhere between gnawing on barbed wire and trying to figure out if Anderson Cooper and Rachel Maddow are the same person."

haha having been through kinston and gone to undergrad not too far away, he's probably 1 of just 10 gays that live there.. its a pretty small town. eastern NC is kinda lame, it sucks to see people with this mentality, i've a couple gays friends who also share his opinion, though they want the equal rights thing, they just think it should be called something else.

i think its stupid. again.. as i've said before, .. i cant wait to move out of NC

It's like when a tornado hits a trailer park. I can hear the inflection and accent in reading the first 3 lines.
    HICK!
And I lived in NC and was born in NC. Not proud of the Tar Heel state for this.
Anyone from the Tar Heel State needs to employ the old Tar Heel and not back down to this amendment.

He's entitled to his opinions and we can't always be focusing on being the perfect representative for our community. However, there seems to be a disconnect in his argument and its reasoning. He starts with the whole marriage should be between a man and a woman but then his tangent seems to be an argument against any kind of marriage. Would've been nice if he'd just said he didn't think marriage was right for him. Also, kinda makes me wonder how his boyfriend feels about reading that article.

“I work with a bunch of open-minded guys,” Layne said of his fellow roofers.

But he wants to marry a closed-minded one. icon_rolleyes.gif Oh icon_rolleyes.gif the icon_rolleyes.gif irony icon_redface.gif

Dexter Thompson is a professional marriage counselor and amateur taxidermist in Beulaville.

“The dynamics of a gay couple versus those of a straight couple are quite different,” Thompson said as he stuffed a deer, bear and beaver for a local hunting club. “In a straight relationship, it’s usually the woman who is trying to pin down the man; with a gay couple, you’ve got one guy trying to pin down another guy.

Looking at marriage that way completely underscores the exorbitant divorce rate.

Guys, READ THE ARTICLE. Then google its author Jon Dawson of the Kinston Free Press.

He's a COMIC WRITER who writes this sort of redneck humor. YES, he did intend the anti gay marriage argument to be ABSURD.

    SPOOF......PARODY.......SATIRE

    Any of these concepts familiar?

Ever read The Onion or watch the comic sketches on The Onion News Network?

Now read the article again to see if you can enjoy the over the top humor.

However, if you saw ONN's segment on "Gays are Too Precious for Military Service"......and you thought it was a real news report......Well, you won't get the joke here either.
