A new way to spot fake profile pics!

As you might have noticed on the google homepage, there's a new search that compares an image you drag into the window to allll the images on the internet. (well not all), and finds identical ones or similar ones.

So if you're unsure of a guy's authenticity, you could drag his picture into google and see if any identical pictures come up as results. If so, BUSTED.

But that's not to say that if there are no copies of the image he is legit. Not all images are indexed by google.

Still, it'll hopefully combat some of the phoney baloneys out there.

also, even though it may be unnecessary now, there's a site called Tineye that does the same thing.

I've been doing that for a long time now. I had this dude from Craigslist wanting to meet me and sent me a face pic of a small time porn star. I was bored so I played along, plus we do have a lot of porn stars that live here so it really could have been him. I kept asking him for more pics but he said he didn't have anymore. So after I got tired to toying with him, I sent him a slew of photos of the guy. My inbox got very quite after that. icon_lol.gif I also use it with my artwork to see if anyone is copying my style.

I've been able to do that using Chrome, but not Firefox (which would just bring up the photo I dropped into it & nothing else).

And the next step is anyone can search facial recognition combined with all the facebook, google, tagging, iPhoto, etc... no more privacy

This is really good to know! I have had a feeling for quite some time now that my profile pics are fake. I would LOVE to use this feature and find out who I REALLY am.

I'm afraid that you'll find out you died in 1892 on a small farm in Kentucky. I wanted to tell you sooner but the reality of the situation was too much for me to bare.

P.S. You look great for 119 years old! What's your secret? Is it the prune juice and goat's blood cocktails you drink every night before bed?

    Nice tits, pre mortem!

Cash you are so funny I want to pummel you with pillows of laughter.

You hotties may want to drag your own picture here into google to see if it is being used by others. I looked up someone's picture here and found it posted on several blogs (probably RJ users who use it without permission to attract people to their blog.

    Your personality sparkles.

Trollileo, they could use your picture on a site called "Low-grade Trolls". That would be an outrage!

There are definitely ways to still use fake pics, but at least the stupids will be filtered. And it will be more work to find a new one, so the lazies will be filtered out as well. They would also have to start from scratch with a new profile making friends all over again.

    It's a good thing.

Unfortunately, it's only effective if the picture is public on the WWW. However, if the picture was stolen from a site in which a log-in is required (i.e., hookup or dating sites), these tools can't search past that. Facebook is probably a huge source of stolen pictures.

I have been alerted to no fewer than 5 fake profiles of me on Manhunt, adam4adam, craigslist, etc.

Sorry! Just go to the google homepage and drag an image into the search bar. Either drag the image file from your computer into it or else open a second web browser and drag it from the one window to the google search box

im not interested about friends on the internet

usually you spend time with friends to help you shape your life and theirs, give and take. if you are wasting your life making internet friends there is something wrong with you mentally probably.

If I drag the pic from my desktop it just shows the pic in my browser window, it doesn't run a search!

Maybe you're running an old browser. I can confirm it doesn't work for Internet Explorer 8. Haven't tried it with 9.

But in this case, you can click on the camera icon in the search bar and it will let you browse for the file on your computer.

He said to drag it in! I only followed instructions!

Should I be offended if this appeared as a 'similar' image to my main pic?:
