Want to say...

First, thanks everyone for the flood of MOTD grats hah. There are a lot of really cool, supportive guys around here and I'm happy to be a part of that.

Secondly, I wanted to say something about a theme that seemed threaded through a lot of the messages I got. A lot of people said some very flattering things (thanks guys!), but what sort of stood out was the idea that my "guys I'm looking for" section spoke to me being an especially good guy... or that someone "wishes there were more like (me) out there." While that's very sweet, I don't think y'all give each other enough credit.

The truth is that I think all people are better than they make themselves out to be, especially gay men and especially gay men in a place like this that (rightfully!) celebrates athleticism and the masculine as much as it does. Most people are just afraid to be too real with others, as if saying who they really are and what they really want leaves them too exposed. It is easier to put on a persona and let that persona be judged instead of the real you. The only reason my profile says anything it does is because I resolved a while ago that not everyone can know me fully, but they can know me truly. We gain nothing by pretending to be other than we are or by hiding what we want or who we want to be.

I don't think a man ever gains anything by speaking other than the truth: most especially the truth about himself.

That gif is a genuine response, I'm sure. After reading your post I threw my hand up in agreement too. Congrats, you deserve it :-)

You definitely deserved the MOTD. You're very handsome, and from word choice and sentence structure along it is obvious that you have a stellar personality! Keep it up, some guy's going to be really lucky one day (if he isn't already)! icon_smile.gif

I haven't got the chance to interact with you a lot on the forums, but I have to admit I'm usually pleased to read your interventions on here.

It once brought me to read your profile, and I honestly thought it sucked you lived so far, but still, you gave me hope, that there's someone that thinks just like you not too far from me, or at least, somewhere on my path.

Then I looked at your picture, and I saw what you were, what you went through and what you are today. I was blown away, literally, and I know that simple congratulations wouldn't be enough; you probably heard it thousand times. I used to be the bad-eating-habit double-chinned guy next door myself, always crawling in the shadow of my lack of confidence. In the last three years, I've lost 60 pounds of fat, gained a body that I can now show without blushing out of shame, as well as self-confidence. It permitted me to come out of the closet and I've never felt better.

So thank you icon_smile.gif And you deserved it !

Great stuff, thanks for making something real out of something so fleeting as MOTD.

Even better is making something fleeting out of something real, like other people's experiences. icon_biggrin.gif No HoMo, No! icon_wink.gif
