    I LOVE the idea.

I really, really liked their "save the whales, lose the blubber, go vegetarian" and thought the people who found it offensive were lame. (I also really loved 24 Hour Fitness' old billboard campaign about aliens going for the fat ones first.)

This is very sensible. I mean guys love porn, so give guys what they want and sneak a message in there. icon_biggrin.gif Love it. They had to buy the .xxx extension website anyway, why not actually use it for what it would be best used for?

If it weren't just straight porn I might consider modeling for them. icon_razz.gif

    - seal hunt protest, unfounded and stupid

    - their support of the sea shepherd

    - they are not about research instead they run purely on emotions

    - they have Pam Anderson as a spokes person.

Agreed they are a bunch of eco terrorists and people who support them are stupid. For real.

What is "stupid" about supporting the efforts to stop the needless killing of seals and whales?

"- they are not about research instead they run purely on emotions"
That's absurd. Have you even looked at their site or their literature? Plenty of research has been done before they move forward on an issue.

"- they have Pam Anderson as a spokes person."
Well, you have me there. But you know who is also a spokesperson for PETA? Ricky Gervais. And Paul McCartney.

I find the term eco terrorist offensive. Promoting vegetarianism and supporting the ethical treatment of animals is not terrorism.

And I can assure you I'm certainly not "stupid."

PETA is for hippies, and hippies are out of touch with reality.

For their strategy of vegan porn, I assume they want to show that vegans are as hot or hotter than non-vegan porn stars to appeal to the general population. As someone who's not interested in a vegan diet (dairy is my love), I can't recall any porny vegan guys in media except the one who developed the Thrive Diet. I'm sure there are hot vegans on RJ, but I haven't searched them out and it certainly doesn't come up in diet threads.

I can be friends with vegans until they try to convert me. I think most of them are pissed the food sucks so they attempt to get as many people as possibly to be as miserable as they are :/

Look at the link I posted above. www.veganbodybuilding.com. I'm vegetarian... I'm not fishing for complements... but I'm not ugly as sin. icon_razz.gif

However, you're missing something obvious here: there likely won't be guys on the site. They'll probably be catering more to the straight male, so lots of skinny vegan girls.

First of all, my food is delicious. It's meat that is disgusting. I'm not miserable with my food choices at all.

I've never once in my life tried to "convert" anyone. Have I been vocal about how gross meat is to me? Yup. But I've never told anyone "you shouldn't eat meat." And neither has my vegan friend Heather. Or my vegan friend Audra.

This is something I don't understand. Of all people who should be sensitive to the absurdity of "converting" it should be guys on a gay forum. The vegetarians I know don't try to convert anyone any more than the gays I know do.

I love meat but I'm really big about environmental protection. Sometimes you simply have to make people hear you.

    Beg to differ.
Making a stand against seal clubbing - why is it unfounded and stupid? Not obvious enough that recreational massacre is inhumane and stupid? Arguments about that being for employment and livelihood are instead unfounded because firstly they leave the seals there to die and secondly they use killing methods which maximise suffering.

Regarding playing on emotions - has politics ever run on clear-cut, distilled arguments? Playing on emotions is the wisest thing to do considering Man is an irrational creature. And using logic rarely grabs anyone's attention, except for the more intellectually inclined. We see this in every election; even top politicians know this trick, anyone would be stupid not to exploit it.

    Last point was irrelevant.

Well that is disappointing and makes the whole topic less relevant to RJ. icon_razz.gif

Obv. you know nothing of the topic of seal hunting.
The seal clubbing does not happen, guns are used. They do not leave them to die. Its an industry that employs communities in an area that has very few raw materials etc. Many are aboriginal people. Seal populations up in that area are out of wack to the point that its damaging the environment.

WWF has no stance when it comes to seal hunts. They are not campaigning it to stop it.

Majority of city people are so narrow minded its crazy

How many of you go on cruise ships, I always see discussions about them. If you want to talk about harm to the environment look at yourself. Resorts you go to in central america or anywhere in the world. Dolphin swims down south. Purchasing exotic animals such as parrots. List can go on and on.

I feel like I have to chime in here as I used to be in a similar boat. I'm not a vegan nor am I a vegetarian, but I do follow a not-so-conventional diet, Paleo (though it's been gaining a bigger following this past year or so). I don't eat most grains, most dairy, and my diet is heavy in meat and saturated animal fat. Conventional wisdom would say I'm on a one-track road to a heart attack, but that's a different story.

What I noticed is that simply talking about your food choices (and any related ethical beliefs) is off-putting to many people. I used to do it. I'd demonize grains and wheat products in front of friends and colleagues who were eating whole wheat bagels. To others, I came across as preachy or trying to guilt trip others into changing when in reality, the topic of wheat toxicity is fascinating to me, and I like talking about things that fascinate me. I've since tried to keep my food choices to myself unless someone asks.

Sure, you may not explicitly say "you shouldn't eat meat", but simply expressing your disgust in anything associated with meat comes off as passive-aggressive preachy-ness to people who happen to eat meat. It's akin to saying "smoking is disgusting" in front of people who you know happen to smoke. Anyway, from one person with a weird diet to another, that's just my 2cents.
