Hopefully this will start a trend to end this barbaric practice.

    Awesome! Finally.

It seemed recently that there's been sort of a backlash where MORE people are wearing fur. Glad to see people are serious about ending it.

Question? How many West Hollywood shops were actually selling fur before the ban?

The article mentions that 91 fashion stores (which is 46% of the fashion stores in the area) sell fur.

I've noticed that too. People are so easily swayed. It doesn't matter if it's right or wrong. They get tired of something, then move in the opposite direction. Conservative to Liberal and back to Conservative.....long hair is in one year....out the next. And people treat fur the same way, but it's not the same at all. I think we have far too many laws already, but this is one area I'd like to see more laws on the books.

If God didn't intend us to slaughter animals solely for the sake of adorning ourselves with their pelts, why did he make them so silky and luxurious?

Just copy paste the link into your browser bar. I always hated that group. The whiny bitches that I've seen wearing PETA buttons were wearing fur (authentic) and leather sandals. They don't realize what I was calling them out for. They didn't understand.

Yeah, I can see what the link is. But that has nothing to do with banning the selling of fur. This thread isn't about PETA.

I'm not defending PETA but I honestly doubt someone is going to stick a PETA button on their fur coat. Fake fur these days is indistinguishable from the real thing. And many people have different views on leather since it's discarded from animals used for meat in most cases. Plus the vegan fake leather is also impossible to tell from real leather.

WEHO is so dumb sometimes. Its like they are the bay area of the southern CA at times. I wish they would focus on real issues instead of these dumb "statement" laws.

I would say outside the 666 leather shop around the corner I cant think of much use for the stuff since it barely gets below 50 degrees in the winter here in weho.

As a libertarian I think its a waste of time to ban "fur" . As a dog lover I know that my Japanese Akita's ancestors were killed for there fur by the Japanese in WW2. I would give my life for my dogs.

    So I am ideologically torn.

Leather is a bit different in my mind as historically tanning of leather was a useful practice and is not wasteful. Raising or trapping for a nice coat is cruel and wasteful in 2011.

Everyone has there own opinion about this topic but I would say, in Weho we treat animals as children so I am not surprised at the vote. But lets be truthful who wears fur? Rich snobby women.

So I am not shedding a tear. FYI my grandfather was a furrier......

I totally agree about the fur ban, but what's with the ban on selling and buying pets?

There were 2 very bad pet shops owned by a certain foreign element that were abusing animals. Capitalizing off the high priced "pets" payed for in neighboring Beverly Hills.
Personally my 2 dogs were purchased but not from a store but from breeders that have real costs involved in breeding and care, and imported.

I think fur, as a by-product of of food harvesting (like leather) is fine. I feel killing solely for the fur is lousy.

Not sure what you meant from that tone, but I honestly hope you were kidding because that sounded ridiculously escapist.

Dogs are not wine. Your dogs are no better because you paid a high price for them and they're "imported." Why the fuck can't people stop buying dogs when so many homeless dogs must be killed daily??? Buying a dog instead of adopting only proves you care more about showing the dog off than loving it.
