    He's giving another speech.

Each more breathtaking (and ultimately forgettable) as the last.

A little more conversation, a little more action icon_rolleyes.gif

Platitudes and bleh... that said.. would we rather have Crazy Man McCain up there... No. i thought not.

And him coming out in favor of the gayz cannot be taken as a BAD thing. Not overwhelmed by Obama (Hilary C would have been better) but he is SOO far ahead of the GOP that it´s not real.

Perhaps... but somewhat ironically, Dick Cheney does more for gay equality - by actively pushing a pro-gay marriage, pro-liberty agenda among conservatives - than all the empty mouth breathing from Obama has ever accomplished.

Amazing. We fall over ourselves to compliment a leader for advocating common sense.

But then again, if the world were not full of bigots running the catholic church, republican party, etc...

Yep it is easy to say you are pro anything. The measure of a man is his actions. What is he going to do to have these rights in America a place he can actually have an influence on.

He lost his mojo. He doesn't sound like he did he did before he was elected. Now he's reading a script and he's boring. When he was hungry for power, he sounded like a real person with a plan.

This I find hard to believe. You cheapen your statements when you use buzzwords like "pro-liberty".

Responding to questions from Barbara Walters on The View with regards to how he felt about gay marriage, Dick Cheney responded, "I support gay marriage. Freedom means freedom for everyone."

    Sounds pro-liberty to me.

What a great speech it all sounds great, but I just wish in our lifetime or next lifetime? we can see these changes and feel the world change for the better. Although, a lot of his speeches gives us hope for the country and the hope for our world, but it doesn't bring change just hope. "God" help us all.

Obama's stuck. It's not a matter of what he should be doing, it's what CAN he do, knowing that the House will block anything and the minority GOP in the Senate will filibuster anything he proposes. He certainly can't make marriage equality happen on his own. But there's no denying some positives that he's already done, from ordering hospital visitation rights, to declining to fight DOMA cases (certain provisions, that is), to pushing DADT repeal early while there was still a Dem majority in the House. Lots of players (including LCRs) made that last one happen, but there's no doubt he got all players on board and did the due diligence to satisfy the doubters.

So to push the conversation further:

What should Obama do now for gay rights?
    Will his attempts be blocked?
If any other person (Hillary, e.g.) were President now, could they do any more, given the opposition's stonewalling?

You'd think that. But he has the same plan now as he had then: "To Transform America."

Happily, we don't need or want his "transforming." America is too resilient to succumb to attacks from her enemies, whether from outside or from within the White House.

    Gay rights under Obama:

    1. Signed bill to end DADT
    2. Extended hospital visitation rights to same sex partners.
    3. Extended hate crimes legislation to include the glbt population.
    4. The census bureau will now count same sex couples beginning in the 2020 census.
    5. Same sex partners of U.S. Diplomats will now have diplomatic passports, use of Embassy medical facilities, relocation assistance, and inclusion in emergency evacuations overseas.
    6. HUD changed rules to accommodate same-sex partner home buyers.
    7. Changed the lines on applications for passports for children from 'mother' and 'father' to 'parent 1' and 'parent 2'.
    8. Extended fringe benefits of federal employees to same sex partners.

What other president has even come close?

what i just read..seems like dramatic progress.there is actually more to put on that list....but Americans..tend to be ignorant to their own reality. They behave like things can happen right away, they don't seem to grasp the fact that in order for things to be done in this country, both parties need to work together..cant blame the president for the faults of republicans.I.E the recent job bill...its just how the political structure is set up whereby a president does not have the power as a dictator. If the American political system was that of a dictatorship and he was not doing his job then you could make your ridiculous comments. Silly
