DO CALORIES MATTER?

Ok so I'm very regimented and diligent with what I eat. I monitor, track, compare etc. etc. I've got a very 'strict' diet, and stick to it very well.

I work out 5 days in the gym a week and try to exercise 7 days...

Long story short I'm getting to the point where I want to maximise every second of everything I put into working out.

I've done a bunch of reading, and the field seems to be split in Calories.

Some say to slim down, cut down on the calories. Some say calories are arbitrary because a fat cal. is different from a protein cal. is different from a carbohydrate car. etc. etc.

I've kind of been following the "Not how many calories, but where they're coming from" kind of school, making sure it's a lot of protein calories, and low fat/carb calories. But I'm beginning to wonder if this is the best for the results I want. (I.e. tone up, show some of the muscle I've been building etc. etc.)

Anyway, just looking to solicit some opinions, thoughts, ideas, experience etc. etc.

And please don't be mean to me icon_smile.gif There's a lot of bullies on here!!

I'm probably just repeating what you may already know, but I don't even give calories a glance. I look straight at the carbs and the type of carbs in it. To cut out carbs completely in an active lifestyle is, in my eyes, ridiculous. You need the fuel to sustain yourself. Of course, stay away from simple carbs (white bread, white rice, sodas, etc) and stick to the slowly-digesting complex carbs (brown rice, whole grain, etc). The only time I ever have simple carbs is immediately after a workout to replenish glucose levels (so treat yourself!) Also, I don't eat carbs past 5pm (Well I try not to icon_confused.gif) just bc insulin sensitivity is lowest at night so the carbs will likely be stored as fat.

Also, I snack all day long and eat around 4 small meals. Friends make fun of me bc I always have a bag of almonds, an apple or something of the sort. And you HAVE to have a cheat day once a week, just don't go too crazy icon_wink.gif

So to answer your question my best results has just been low carb but really looking into what type of carbs they are. I'm sure I'm repeating things you've already read/heard but this works for me, but it's still a work in progress...Best of luck!

If anyone is mean to you, trace their IP, map it to a real world location, wait for them to exit said location and then punch them in the fucking neck or something like that.
