Until I read a recent post, I never thought that there may be many who are currently unemployed on RJ.
Are you currently unemployed due to the recession or other causes and are unemployment benefits available for you?

Not technically unemployed, but because of the recession I'm underemployed. Can't find enough work, despite whatever credentials I may have, to achieve some kind of stability.

I'm not sure just what type of work you would be looking for in your area. Your profile is impressive, but it seems that only certain doors would appeal to you.icon_confused.gif

Many doors appeal, but ironically after a long time in the academy only certain doors are open icon_smile.gif. I'm trained to do something very specific so it's hard to find alternative kinds of employment.

Unemployed now, but only because I moved to a new city for school.

Not technically unemployed since I do contract work, however it is far from being the money I use to make. Hopefully the economy will change for the better.

I'm unemployed in Brooklyn (any connections? halp!) because my boyfriend moved for his bass career.

The irony? he has a job, and hasn't been able to play bass much yet... and I'm still looking three weeks in.

Its so hard to get jobs these days. I have my Master's in Accounting and no one was even asking to interview me. My sister with the same degree 6 or 7 years ago had firms fighting for her.

The only way I got my job was knowing someone. The lady I knew got me a temp job in her department. While working there I met some other ladies who offered me my current job. I worked extremely hard and still connections is what helped me in the end.

My advice for anyone looking for a job..START TEMP! You can meet so many people and they will want to choose you for a full time position over someone from the outside

    Underemployed.

I lost my job of 10+ years back in early 2009. I immediately used it as a platform to go back to school for a degree in nursing which is something I had been thinking about for a couple years prior, but was unfeasible due to consistently working overtime and traveling a lot for work during the spring and fall (which used to be incredibly busy seasons at the company before the economic downturn).

I work for them part-time now and supplement the remainder of my expenses with loans. I couldn't take on more than 20 hours a week even if I wanted to, without it affecting my grades and my sanity. Last month, I was granted full scholarship accompanied by a monthly stipend to finish the remainder of my degree, so things will be much easier here on out financially.

Crazy to say it, but losing my job was one of the best things to ever happen to me.

Unemployed because of unfair termination. Still quite angry about that.
One year later, alot of drama happened, yet still looking.
    Now what?

Unemployed Jan 2009 to November 2010 - Position eliminated.

Underemployed now but I do have health benefits. So making 50% less I guess....is okay...for now. They say this kind of shit builds character. I believe my character is currently the size of a football field. icon_biggrin.gif

I'm unemployed but in two weeks I start working on my own perfume line and sell them. icon_biggrin.gif
My school schedule doesn't allow me to get a stable job.

My position was eliminated earlier this year as well. I was on unemployment for a couple of months before I found the position I'm in now. It is not full time, but it beats sitting at home.

For real, your own perfume line?
Interesting, How did you start that?

I'm planning to make only solid perfumes. Maybe someday I will ship them to the USA also so you can buy :-)

And Patrick, if you see this don't tell me again about organic chemistry. Thank you.

Im unemployed and also a student, paying my own fees. It is incredibly hard to find part time work I can do alongside my course...when I started my course I had a job and was then made redundant. I am at the point of having to give up my PhD........

Its so frustrating and really depressing.

Trollileo saidUnemployed and spend a lot of time looking for work. Gotta pay for rent and I'm sick of living off of top ramen. When I get a job, I'll be able to apply for food stamps, too. So most of my money will go toward rent and the debt I owe to my roommates.

    Edit:
Will, your gif looks like someone's jackhammering another guy...

OK, how about this one? constructilingual.gif

I'm sure you wouldn't have any problem "parking" wherever you wanted to "park it".

Unemployed. Living gig to gig and with family help. It sucks. Would move but need the funds to do that. Grad school is probably the way to go though. Thanks for starting this thread, BTW. I know our problem is not an isolated case these days.

I was underemployed as retail management for a while (making $13/hr in LA...LA). Got fucking sick of the ridiculous pressure to perform in a receding economy, the fact that my associates were sometimes kinda dumb, that I got blamed for shit that wasn't my fault, and that I had gone to grad school and was forced to do that.

So, I quit, and decided to move to Taiwan where it's cheaper, I'll be getting paid more in $US, and I'll be able to network with people that value my skill set.

In the meantime, not employed. Unless you count go-go dancing.
