The G.O.P. (Republicans) used to be the U.S. political party African Americans voted for up until the 1936 reelection of Roosevelt because of Lincoln's role in freeing the slaves. Demographically speaking, wouldn't it make sense that white gay males swing toward the Republican Party once they attain full and equal rights?

It all depends on what direction the GOP goes and at the present time, it does not look good thanks to all the narrow minded, bible thumping screwballs that have taken over the GOP and fucked it up with all their right wing Jesus/god bullshit. Very sad but true.

jprichva saidWhy is it so often assumed that the only possible reason a gay man could be a Democrat is because of gay issues?

Good point. But why does the phrase 'Log Cabin Republicans' gets a snicker in the gay and straight world?

Doesn't quite get a snicker .... but it's the very definition of Stockholm Syndrome ... that's for sure

    Good question.

The hope for equality is very a powerful thing, I think. It would make sense that both of your parties would demand it.

One would think.. however after watching the GOP debate again tonight the GOP thrives on denying equality.

Republican judges struck down prop 8 in Calif. Republican judges overturned Don't Ask, Don't tell.
Margaret Hoover, grand daughter of President Hoover, has been an out spoken critic for marriage equality.

The Tea Party are the lunatic fringe that is fighting to control the republican party. Hopefully, they will be pushed to the side and think republicans can be heard.

I know there are black Republicans, just like there are Latino Republicans. Or millionaire Democrats and businessmen who are Democrats. I am talking demographically, meaning a greater tendency to be affiliated with one party over another party. That's all.
