I'm just curious to see who if anyone has decided to join a branch of the military since DADT is gone.

I started my enlistment process for the navy earlier in the year so I'll be leaving for basic training very soon. It would be nice to know if a fellow RJ'er is along on the journey too. icon_biggrin.gif

I heard some recruiters are already hitting up local LGBT centers for potential recruits. Progress, mang.

I was in, and got out, before DADT.

You can't pay me enough money to go back in. icon_lol.gif

They were invited by the LGBT center.

But I think it's cool that they went.

    I can't go...two reasons:

Classified 1Y in 1972 and I think I might be a little too old for the armed services..........however, if I did enlist...I might find a boyfriend! Woo Hoo!

Very few. Those that will would have anyway.

DADT is a weird sort of victory for the Gay Left.

"YAY! GAYS CAN SERVE OPENLY! IT'S SOCIAL JUSTICE!"

"But, um, we're Liberals... aren't we supposed to hate the military?"

The gender feminists seem to have dodged the bullet (pun intended) on this one. You haven't heard them bitch at all about women not being permitted in combat roles.

    Gays in the army...

does this mean we have to let straights into the navy too?

    icon_lol.gif

doesnt matter, we havent had anything like DADT in Aussie military for decades. Turns out we didnt just stop fighting to root each other.

i got commissioned into the navy reserves on tuesday. sure, it's a small step. a lot of my friends and family are active duty and i recognize that what i'm doing is different but i'm happy to do something. i started my paperwork as soon as it was obvious that DADT would be repealed and the timing worked out that i was commissioned the day of repeal. i'm trying to get into a unit that will allow me to deploy but we'll see. it's something i've wanted to do for a long time.

Please. White Liberals have a deep philosophical problem with the military, because of their "abhorrence" for all forms of "violence."

It became fashionable for white Liberals to embrace the military under GW Bush, reassuring everyone that it was Bush they hated, not the men in uniform.

theantijock saidAs a bleeding heart on my sleeve liberal, I was never completely comfortable working as a volunteer for vets although I did it anyway. I've been busy with rehabbing this property lately but when I get a day's break I look forward to doing more volunteer work for vets as a gay bleeding heart on my sleeve liberal.

You'd serve them better by leaving them the fuck alone.

This screaming liberal doesn't hate the military at all. I am a believer and supporter of all of our troops. I hate the two wars we were in (and the idiot that got us into those), but turning my back on those serving?

    Never.

I'm thinking whoever wants to, now with a knowledge of laws that they are equal, and that who they love has nothing to do with how they serve.

It's pretty phenomenal to me, and admiringly so, that they are willing to join the military and give up civilian life for a considerable time.

I already did 5.5 years in the Navy during DADT. I'm so glad that it is gone now though, as it was tough living a double life day in and day out!

In the article they mentioned only women coming to the booth.
