I have just invented something awesome. It's called having tea with ice cream.

    +

    Rooibos Tea

    =

    TASTESPLOSION!

Hot to cold and back, and the heat from the tea melts the ice cream as it hits your tongue, and the taste is more intense. Oh lohd have mercy!

I really enjoy hot tea with ice cream. I'm a weirdo, but it's so relaxing to watch some netflix or sit outside on the patio and just watch the sun set while listening to the wind chimes.

Ok, ok. It would have to be one of these ice creams

    -Coffee
    -Chocolate
    -Mint Chocolate Chip
    -Tiramisu
    -Banana Split
    -Southern Hospitality

And more. I can't think of them right now. I feel the urge coming.

Lol this is too funny. I was raised on herb tea and ice cream, usually with a good movie after dinner on the weekend. There's something extra special about it in the dead of winter, and having a wood stove cooking to my side.

Family tradition started oh, somewhere around 1986. Just had some tonight!

Rooibos is technically not a tea, but everyone drinks it like a tea, so we think of it as tea. It's origin is the Rooibos bush grown in South Africa. It took a long time for it to catch on in the US. If you have a Teavana store near you, try Rooibos Tropica. It's one of their most popular blends. They sell bulk tea only.

The good news is that it's even higher in antioxidants than green tea and has zero caffeine, though green tea is very low in caffeine.

Try green tea ice cream in an Asian restaurant. Really good!

Yup! But my favourites are earl grey and mango (yes, mango tea) ice cream!

Gah! I wish I had some right now!

Your combo kinda sounds like a Thai iced tea. The best Thai iced tea I had was made with a red Rooibos tea from a local coffeeshop.

I put rooibos tea leaves in my smoothies every day. I can't taste it, but the antioxidants are supposed to be very good for you. I put green tea in my smoothies too, but I only do that once in a while because it gives me a heck of a caffeine kick with the pure leaves.

I use 2 tablespoons, but it depends on your blender. Start small and then gradually add more each time until you see how it affects the taste. It's the same with green tea. Real green tea tastes like a cross between grass and spinach. You don't want to add too much.

Holy shit! 2 tablespoons?!? A cup of rooibos tea is only the drainings of 1 teaspoon. It can even be resteeped, and after that there would still be some left in the used leaves. 2 tbsp is like 8 cups of tea worth!

Green tea ice cream is gross. Let's not pervert this topic. For those considering trying this, having tried green tea ice cream will be enough to write off Rooibos + Ice cream!

Y'alls stop trying to claim like you invented this before me. Tryin' to pull an Oprah with The Secret. Nuh uh! No way!

Do you combine the tea and ice cream or consume them separately? Actually I can see it done either way.

The comment aboutcold dessert in cold weather reminds me of my junior high school preference for hot fudge sundaes after attending football games in nippy weather.

You keep them separate so that when you go from one to the other, the contrast is niiice. The ice cream melting on my hot tongue is the best part. I don't know if I'd want to try a mixture of both.

THIS! I don't have hot tea very often (it's hot enough where I live), but when I do, and I have it with ice cream, it's that feeling which is the best part!

This sensation needs a name. Suggestions?

It will sound disgusting but a friend of mine really likes balsamic vinegar with vanilla ice cream. I tried some the other day and it's pretty good, just go lightly with the vinegar.
It's not salty or tangy like I thought it would be, the ice cream cancels that out and you're left with a fruity syrup. A mutual friend used to make it in a Japanese restaurant he worked at.

But I'm more of a fan of white tea with a dash of non citrus fruit juice (lychee is good) or chicory coffee syrup and ice cream.
