Anyone know much about this fad, or participate? The costumes & competition part reminds me just a little of the Imperial Courts we used to have (do they still exist?), that crowned an Empress & Emperor in major US cities that had formed gay "courts." The many negative comments following the article are interesting.

It's just a sub-culture of the gay community that exists, and lots of people enjoy it and find it entertaining. It's not my thing, but neither is skeet shooting, boxing, or bungee jumping. That's what makes the world go 'round.

As far as the comments after the article...pretty typical of things like this and not surprising that many make nasty comments because stuff like this they either do not understand, or it simply makes them uncomfortable. It's sad to read many of them, but this is something that will likely never change. There will always be closed-minded people in the world who get agitated and mean-spirited when evaluating something out of their "comfort zone".

NOT that the comments are anything unexpected, but it's just funny how people are like OMG MSNBC FORCED ME TO READ THIS ARTICLE AND WATCH THE ENTIRE 4 MINUTE VIDEO START TO FINISH....

Maybe they're just scared that they WANTED to watch it?

Also: I'm sick of this "gay agenda" shit.

    Here's my Agenda:

    1) Dry cleaning
    2) Tailor to pick up a pair of pants I had hemmed
    3) Gym
    4) Grocery Shopping
    5) Clean my room
    6) write thank you cards for Graduation gifts
    7) Barbeque with highschool friends I haven't see for a while

Oh and to the GAYS who hate on this? They're most likely insecure with themselves, and potentially suffering from GAY GUILT

    (Guiltless thread-self-promotion icon_eek.gif )

It's a part of our culture, just like the fucking XFL was part of straight people culture... and LORD knows how much of an epic fail that was.. But we let big strong men mate wrestling with football and give that shit a try... Hmm sounds kind of gay. Oh wait, they let the cheerleaders give lapdances at half time: No Homo!

Interesting video. I had heard briefly about how voguing was a big urban dance form, but had no idea it constituted a large following like that.

I saw it first on America's Best Dance Crew a couple years back with the "Vogue Evolution" Crew.

Tabitha and Napoleon D'umo went on to take the voguing from that season and incorporated it into choreography for that season's ABDC finale, and also had a tiny bit of voguing in a group dance they did for "So You Think You Can Dance" the same year.

When I found out about the ball scene a couple years ago I was shocked. It was exactly what I used to do with my cousins as a kid in the backyard (or on the trampoline) LOL. Walking, voguing, etc. The scene would have been perfect for me if it could have drawn me out earlier.

I'm old. I don't have time to wait for it to load. It seems to take forever.

I dunno about these dances and emperors and such.

I mean, if I went around saying that I was an emperor because some watery tart lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away...

Although I did meet a man one time at the Folsom St. East in NYC this summer who claimed to be the Gay Leather Emperor.

I'm not sure this would be considered a fad since it's been around since the 90's.

I've only ever seen it on video, but it looks like a healthy way for these guys to spend their time. You really need to be in good shape for that kind of stomping.
