Using a TENS unit for muscle building / toning

I have a good TENS unit with EMS settings. I have wanted to use it for working on a few muscle groups (abs, pecs, etc.) but have only tested it a few times and simply have not tried it for an extended period. There seems to be sufficient evidence of professional usage to suggest it's worth the effort. I've poked around online, but haven't found any satisfying specs for specific settings that are recommended for muscle development.

    1) Do any of you have any experience to share (good or bad)? (Is it worth the effort? etc.)

    2) Does any one have any links or suggestions for settings that are good for muscle development (pulse rate, pulse width, on time, off time, ramp time, length of sessions, intervals between sessions, etc.)

My general idea has been to simply take the highest setting I can endure and gradually raise it (like weights/reps in regular lifting). But I know that with TENS pain management sometimes more subtle frequencies/etc. have more effect.

Hi sexy and helpful IGator. Thanks for the link. This is the best I have seen anywhere and is enormously helpful. Just what the doctor ordered.

Umm.... Wanna help me put on the patches? And take them off? Will I get more muscle stimulation if I touch my tongue to that ring on your chest? icon_twisted.gif

TENS unit is for pain control.
Neuromuscular electrical stim is for muscle re education after injury or surgery.

For general weight training or bodybuilding, using electrical stim is not beneficial.
