This is a great piece about human life in the Palestinian occupied territories aside from politics from hot chairs where children are surprised to know not all children live under military checkpoints or constant presence of soldiers.

According to Israeli Prison Services statistics cited by B'tselem, more than 5,300 Palestinians were in Israeli prisons in July 2011. Since the beginning of the occupation in 1967, an estimated 650,000 to 700,000 Palestinians have reportedly been jailed by Israel. By one calculation, that represents 40 per cent of the adult-male Palestinian population.

"You can't go to Jerusalem to pray. And it's only 15 kilometres away. And you have your memories there."

Today, for some Palestinians living under the 44-year occupation simply remaining on the land is a kind of moral victory. This summer, I started hearing a new slogan: "Existence is resistance." If you remain on the land, then the game isn't over.

More than 300,000 Jews have settled in the Palestinian occupied territories. No matter what happens, no one wins.

I understand that very close to 5000 Settlement Housing Units have been approved so far this year, anyone have an absolute figure ? With each settlement community, the Israeli's tare down more Palestinian homes and destroy more farms/gardens/olive trees and groves, to create the building space and so called buffer zones around the settlements to keep Palestinians away. Because many Fanatic Jews in the settlements mistreat the 'goy' (Palestinians/Gentiles) in the area around them, whom they see as beneath them. and of course more checkpoints are set up as this topic refers too.
