Beer = carb loading?

    Ok so I had a pretty "bad" weekend with dieting. I drank a lot more beers than I normally do on weekends and ate things I haven't had in months, like pizza, pasta, and pita bread. FYI My normal diet is paleo plus some dairy.

    Anyway yesterday I worked out my back and biceps and beat my one rep max on many exercises, such as one arm dumbbell rows, lying t-bar row, v-bar pulldowns. Reverse grip curls and rope cable biceps curl. (but not pullups : ( still can't beat 18 standard grip ones. If its the sideways or chin up grip I can do over 20 tho)

    So I got to thinking that maybe all the bad eating and specifically the beer drinking acted as a huge weekend long carbo load. Anyone else experience this or was it just a coincidence.

    Earlier this year, I had an amazingly kick-ass workout after carb-loading on cake and chips at a potluck the day before. So, to better fuel my workouts, I added sweet potato three days a week to my otherwise low-ish carb paleo diet. Unfortunately, starch in any form ramps up my overall appetite, and I started gaining two pounds a week. After three weeks, I ditched the starch and went back to my regular diet.

    I'm thinking you were just working out your guilt! icon_smile.gif

    Possibly subconscious guilt. But consciously I enjoyed the food I ate, beers I drank and the friends I made, so no guilt here.

    Well I guess no one else has had this happen from "beer loading" lol.

    Whatever it was, it worked.
