I thought it was derivative of a hundred other things... it was like the Space Family Robinson left Blade Runner to go thru a Stargate to live in a Lost compound in Jurassic Park where the bad guy from Avatar is in charge.

But it was entertaining enough that I'll stick around to see where it goes.

And the daddy had a hot, sweaty shirtless scene. Wish I could find a picture to post.

Many critics didn't like it (what do they know?) but I did. Of course, I liked LOST and V also. Looking forward to next week. Lots of discussion online at http://www.imdb.com.

    @ Endo.

It was INCREDIBLY derivative. When the family watched the huge sauropods gently eat leaves out of baby girls hand I laughed out loud... I'm pretty sure that was not reaction Speilberg & company intended.

Sucked. I turned it off after first 40-50 minutes.

I watched for about an hour and then switched over to CNN.

    Interesting concept, not-as-interesting execution.

That said, I may try it again next week.

You didn't miss much. The second half was about the rebellious teenagers sneaking outside the gates to drink Jurassic Moonshine. Wow, rebellious teens... how innovative. The kids are the worst part about this show (and that's saying a lot!)

Shirtless scenes aside, pretty awful show.

Lost in Space meets Land of the Lost. I keep expecting Chaka to show up in a scene with Sleestaks in pursuit.

I did not see it last night, but I did like the first show. Yeah it was a blend of all the other stuff but that family being in the situation they are in is due to our world being out of control, which is a very important message.
Our world can not continue to consume like this, it just will not work.

Yeh, so 2 episodes in, this show is just terrible. They can't cancel it fast enough.

But Jason O'Mara is pretty hot...

    Dear Terra Nova

Don't show me a Bird of Paradise plant (Strelitzia reginae) and tell me that is a relative of a Moth Orchid (Phalaenopsis "splendidae")

    1) Most people watching won't give a shit about it, so there's no need to utilize that dialogue
    2) The people who do care about the small science details are quickly losing faith in your inability to research the smallest things.

Honestly, not impressed. I don't think it will last long.

Other than the dinosaur effects, there wasn't much I enjoyed... (well, that new love interest of the daughter was eye candy)

I couldn't help thinking that we're only going to see this same sort of scenario repeated over and over, namely dinos-almost-eat-main-characters drama.

Heck, I don't even remember the characters' names... goes to show how invested I became.

But I usually give new shows about 3-4 episodes to get going.

All new shows suck for the first 3 - 4 episodes. Then the show usually improves after, when the writers get some feedback. But seeing that this is Fox, and they have a solid history of cancelling sci-fi shows lately, I don't think Terra Nova will be around next season. I'm amazed that Fringe is still on the air. Shows that are destined to be cancelled usually get the Friday night time slot. So I wouldn't be surprised if we see Terra Nova and Fringe being aired back to back on the same night. I guess wait and see. icon_neutral.gif

lame and cheesy. I couldn't watch past the pilot. Nothing will ever top "Lost" when it comes to fantasy/adventure and nothing will top "24" when it comes to crime/drama.

It's like LOST without the edge, especially dislike the family drama, Jason O'mara with or without clothes is the best thing about the show.

Unoriginal, but somewhat entertaining. They need to move the plot away from dodging nasty dinos and focusing on the hinted social ramifications of a shake-n-bake society with the dinos as merely a back drop. Braga fired the entire writing staff after the pilot. Probably a good thing, but bringing in Echevarria didn't seem to help much as the second episode was bad fluff at the best.
