Taking and posting pictures

There are a lot of guys here who are well-built and good looking, but have photos that do not do them justice. Taking a picture in a mirror never produces very good results. Here is how to take better pictures for posting.

    1) Get a good digital camera instead of using a cellphone. The camera doesn't need to be expensive; even a 3 mp camera will do the job. It must have a digital output that can be connected to a TV set, and a remote control.

    2) Get a tripod; they are not expensive either.

    3) Connect the camera to the TV set; the TV set will show what the picture will look like.

    4) Do not use the flash!! Experiment with different lighting, poses, etc. Lighting is extremely important. Lighting coming from above you and slightly in front of you will accent muscles, especially the pecs, but if all the light is coming from above you, some areas will be too dark.

    5) Using the remote control and while looking at the TV set to get the best possible pose and lighting, take several pictures, then use the TV set to look at the pictures stored in the camera. Delete the ones that obviously are not very good. If necessary, take more pictures until you have several that look good.

    6) Transfer the pictures to your computer and look at them again. If some pictures are too dark, you may be able to improve them with software on your computer. Delete any pictures that are not very good.

    7) You can use the computer software to crop photos to show only the parts of you you want to upload to a website. Or, to maintain modesty where necessary, you can black out a portion of the photo.

icon_cool.gif It may be necessary to make pictures smaller for uploading to websites.

    9) If you modify any of the pictures, save the original!! The modified ones can have the same name, but with letters after them, such as 105a, 105b, etc.

By following the above steps, you will be able to have several photos which will make you look as good as possible.

Perhaps others may wish to comment on how they take good photos of themselves.

I have both a camera and a trypod, and of course the cell phone. If I take pics at the gym, I am not dragging a camera and trypod there with me. Others that may walk in think im some kinda freak taking pics of myself using a cam and a trypod while working out. Easyer to take a quick shot in mirror with cell phone.

Great advice and tips, but a bit inconvenient for alot of us.
If i wanted a quick 'snap' shot i'll just use my phone. It's okay.

I don't have a tv, otherwise this sounds like a good idea--the only good pictures I ever have of myself are ones that other people take--I am not much of a photographer.

Cropping and lighting's cool, but too much tinkering makes a person look better but not like themselves.

Also... take LOTS of pix in different conditions/locations/lighting(!). Most won't be great... but at least you'll have an assortment to work with over time... and some will at least be decent. With practice/motivation, some could be great. Most of all have FUN with the process. Sometimes silly pix are the sexiest (I dont' have enough of those here) and can show off aspects of your personality that would never be captured otherwise.

Tripods are so cheap. You can get one for $10 at Best Buy. I picked up a Gorillapod a while ago, and love it.

Also, nothing wrong with mirror pics. As long as the pose is good and your arms aren't blocking your body too much. And clean your damn mirrors please. icon_lol.gif

I've found that resizing the photo changes how it looks. You often have to resize it to fit or to reduce the file size. I suggest playing with the size before you decide to use or toss the photo.

Agree - I would love to look better in photos but the reward does not equal the effort!

Thanks FRE0 for the tips. I had a tripod tucked away somewhere but your post reminded me of it.
Now that you mention it, flash does make my skin look pale.
