OK, just got back from a short photo trip by a pond. Here are two pictures. The second is of a lily pad that I thought had an interesting track pattern on it, and what appeared to be tiny seeds. BUT those are NOT seeds. Can you guess what they are, specifically??? Close-up pic to follow once you guess.

What do you think those little specks are?

Zebra mussels? Snails carrying some sort of fatal helminth? Some sort of biting insect?

I need the macro in order to tell, the specks are very ambiguous to me...

I thought they were snails too, until I zoomed in and went, "Holy fuck!"

OK, I couldn't get close enough to take a sharp macro picture (I was hanging over a railing to get as close as possible) but this is a zoomed in picture. They are frickin' baby stink bugs!

Ehhh.....they're not really gross. They're beautiful actually. Plus, everything has it's place in nature. I'm sure there are many birds and frogs who are glad they're around.

Hmmm, I may be wrong. Pictures of baby stink bugs don't seem to look like these. Hmmmm. Time to search the web.

I fucking hate stinkbugs. I managed to avoid them the past three years for whatever reason, but they will decimate my squash/curcurbit plants in a matter of hours.

I love nature and all creation, but you better not mess with my veggie garden, or I will unmake you.

Here's about as close as I can zoom to give a variety of angles. Extra points if you can find out what they are. The white band in the middle should identify them. Must be some kind of beetle. Virginia.

Found something that looks close on bugguide.net. Some variation of a Water lily planthopper.
