    Mine's 24.0 (Normal).

You're overweight by 2 lbs? Seriously? You have nothing to worry about.

Lol great job at staying healthy and i got no worries, i just find technicalities amusing. 2lbs difference from overweight to normal is a bit silly. But as conceded as this sounds i am fond of my curves.

Bmi is as crude as it get to assess fitness.

It's valid for comparison between population, group of people, but as low significance for a individual.

BMI don't provide indication on the split between muscular mass, bone density and fat, while all three have impact on bmi result.

    at 5' 7" and 168 lbs...my BMI is 26.3

I keep my weight recorded on my Wii Fit, and it tells me everyday that I am overweight and need to lose another 28 lbs to be considered normal...

yeah, because I'd look so sexy at 140 lbs and 5 '7"....gross. haha.

btw, I dont go by my BMI, if I did, I would have an eating disorder, Im sure.

This is so true for a lot of guys...I'm 5'7 150 lbs...I've gotten down below 140 (where is says I 'should' be) before and it is pretty anorexic looking.

I am 5'7" and 230 lbs. My BMI is so high that even though I have a 53" chest and a 33" waist, I have to get a letter from my doctor to buy life insurance.

I had to get a letter from my doctor also for my health insurance company because they wanted to rate me up a tier due to my "morbid obesity".

    BMI is bullshit.

When I was a junior in HS, I hit a spurt of weight loss (I attributed it to one of the steps in puberty, because I didnt change anything in my life at the time), and I ended up going from 160 lbs to 135 lbs in the matter of 2 months..the vice-principal (who also happened to be my best friends mom), called me into her office one day and had a long discussion with me, convinced I had anorexia...I laughed then (because I ate everything), but now when I look back at pictures, I see it. I looked like a bobblehead! So yeah, I wont be going back down in weight to accommodate a number...
My current weight goal, to maintain between 165 - 170.

I'm 6ft tall and weighed 178lbs this morning giving me a BMI of 24.3. That puts me just a pound or two shy of being overweight icon_sad.gif

Thanks, now the day is totally shot. I'm fat.

A couple of years ago my BMI was 51 now I am down to a BMI of 31. I have people tell me that I look too thin now for my frame but I am still classified as obese. I think a standardized scale that doesn't take into consideration the differences of people's bodies at certain heights is not an accurate way to measure body mass.

Not sure, probably around 25 or 26,so on the heavy side for my height. But then I do have upper body muscle mass, especially.
Ever since I filled in one of those BMI charts and they advised me to lose at least a stone to be in the 'normal' range (I`m six foot one, about fourteen stone) I`ve taken them all with some skepticism.A stone lower would leave me pretty skinny.
I think they work generally,as there is a correlation between height and weight, but there are many complicating individual factors to consider.
A useful guide,no more, not to be taken too seriously.

Agreed!! The former Superintendent for the Chicago Police, Jody Weiss (amateur bodybuilder) took BMI down as part of the requirements for cadet entry for the department.

    Mines at 30.0. I don't think I'm obese...

BMI was invented by insurance companies to justify higher premiums... (I dont know that but it makes sense!)

I can't be bothered with BMI; at best, it is a very crude measurement.

Some people can have a very healthy weight and be rated too heavy or too light by BMI.

The gold standard is being weighed under water to determine body fat percentage. It is the only reasonably reliable method. The reason it's not commonly used is that it's inconvenient.
