there was a mosquito in my room and it bit me not once, not twice, but three times, before I killed the fucker. this is just not good. I'm paranoid already and don't need the thought of getting West Nile Virus.

From personal experience, mosquito repellants with DEET are the most effective. The natural citronella stuff sucks. Also, invest in a good fan. Mosquitoes are small/lightweight and can't fly against strong wind. Before you go to bed, crank up the fan and point it in your direction.

This is very effective it works, after a couple of min you actually watch the mozzies fall to the ground while they are in mid flight, In South Africa we have a lot of them especially by the dam. Fortunately not all of these areas carry the malaria parasite.

I agree, DEET is the only thing that works.
But I freakin' hate wearing it....like slathering yourself in poison so you won't get eaten alive.
Seems just shy of a 'salt earth' tactic.

Your chances of getting West Nile are extremely low. If if you get it, about 80% of people who get infected never have any symptoms.

Around here, the ticks are much worse than the mosquitoes.

I take mega-doses of B-1 (about 4 -100mg tablets daily ) during warmer weather It supposedly alters your body chemistry enough that you don't 'taste' or 'smell' good to them. I've actually seen gnats/mosquitoes land on me yet not bite!

So far, I sit unbitten this year while I watch others slather themselves in OFF! and still swat & curse.
Try it. What could it hurt?

Yeah, I don't like putting directly on me either. What I do is, spray it on a couple of old towels, and leave the towels close to my bed before I go to sleep. This works most of the time. Also, I heard those "incense" things are quite effective. But I've never tried them.

Mosquito bite solution = 10 seconds with a hair dryer. No itch afterwards, works like a dream! Something about protein degradation.

Mosquito Coils work great, but I've only ever used them outdoors, would be quite offensive inside I'd imagine.

    muhahahah., or in india.

I woudnt recommend that incense coil. We used that when there were literally hundreds of mosquitoes in the house. It makes them unconscious and they usually drop dead. But they are not very good for your lungs.

I hate these mosquitoes. They always have the same tactic to attack humans. First after switching of the lights you will hear one maybe more singing in your ear. After a few hand movements in the dark you hope it got the message and is seeking another victim.

Just to lie 5min and then to feel the itching.

The mosquito season here is already starting so it is time to gear up at to fight them. I know I will go out of this war with a few bites and a lot of smashed mosquitoesicon_biggrin.gif

Another trick that works really well, besides the fan, is to put a bowl of really hot water in the corner of the room. It has to be hotter than you (go ahead and make the joke, it's obvious). They're attracted to heat and will fly into the water and drown.

The other night, I was attacked by this one pesky mozzie. I got bitten six or seven times on my legs and feet, and finally managed to kill it after hunting it down for about two hours (on and off).

Then after I cleaned up its remains, I turned back to my desk where I was doing work, and THERE WERE ANOTHER TWO RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!
