Stretching questions

    I've always had this question, how important is stretching? I never see much about it in bodybuilding or fitness magazines. When I do, they stress it's importance, but give no real guidelines on anything else. Such as when, how long, a good way to order stretches?

    I recently started getting into yoga, and have started incorporating some of the poses I feel are most effective at the end of my workout. This is the first time in my life I feel I am stretching and getting some real benefit from it. I am pleased with the results. I have increased both in flexibility and size over the past couple of months with this routine.

    How effective is it to stretch a particular muscle group the day of intensive training to that group? I break up my workouts by body part, and on leg days, for example, when I do my leg stretches, it feels like I am stretching everything but my legs. Am I getting benefit? Or should I save some time by moving on to stretched I feel more?

    On average, I hold a stretch for about 5 good breaths, or a slow count to 20. Can I hold a stretch for too long? When is the best time to stretch?

    Finally, how often should I stretch? I aim to do at least light stretching at least once a day. Should I be stretching more? Is there such a thing as over-stretching?

    My overall goal is strength and size. Increased flexibility is also a desire, but not in lieu of strength and size. Keep that in mind please.
