Forum posts are like farts

I was looking over some of the threads today and I thought to myself, "not that again." A few topics turned into "if you don't share my opinion, then you're factually wrong" wars.
It made me think that some posters aren't really sharing ideas but farting in public. These posters must think that their farts are like fresh cut grass or the fresh air after a rainstorm but differing opinions just have stinky farts.

    Discuss.

I accidentally farted on a couple guys as they walked behind me yesterday.

I don't agree that they are farting, i.e. I don't share your opinion. Does that mean I just had a meta-fart?icon_lol.gif

BTW I think they are burping.

    Ermine,

Do you have a solution to how you think the discussions should have been handled? At some point should "we'll just have to agree to disagree" be posted when it appears the conversation is looping? People here can have strong convictions to their opinions. I'll confess that I'm pretty stubborn with mine. I do however open a window to take in what others have to say.

    And since I'll assume I'm a culprit of what you're talking about — I'm all ears icon_biggrin.gif

What if I'm involved in an alleged catfight?

Try not to get into one, and if you did, extricate yourself gracefully.icon_smile.gif

lmao I love that gif. Reminds me of the kitten that stopped a fight by throwing up.

I don't consider myself getting into fights here, but I think I'm one of the people he's talking about. I'll take your advice and extricate myself gracefully. Or perhaps take the discussion up in an e-mail.

Yeah I noticed that when I was still an active forum-user.

I don't mind having disagreements, but opinion=fact arguments are tedious. I feel genuinely refreshed when someone can either admit that their opinion is just that, an opinion, or they can provide facts and insight into WHY they hold that opinion.

Though sadly, I have to admit I find it hard to back away from an argument no matter how much it seems like a futile effort

    Thanks for the input.

I had thought of forum posting being like farts before, but I was thinking in terms of how some guys post and move on like they let the fart loose and just move on. Some other guys post (fart) and want everyone to know they did it and sort of hope their post (fart) lingers.

I felt like sharing it this week after a few threads (and a few specific posters) shared their opinions but act as though others couldn't think that their opinions stink, the same way that they feel that other opinions stink.
