When does one go from "slim" to "defined" or "average"?

Is there an objective weight change to go from one to the other category? Or does it reflect more personal vanity and preference about how one wants describe oneself?

I think it is qualitative versus quantitative and is different for every individual. By the same token, however, I think that there is a cultural norm that blankets people. For example, you can be slim and defined simultaneously or one/other, but average depends on where you are and who is defining it. If Godzilla is average, what does that make Oprah or Ellen Degeneres, right? But age and ethnicity might also have something to play as well... Haha, sorry, this is probably not the answer you were looking for, but I seriously think that it is a personal political statement about the body that one wants to make when describing one's self or others. icon_smile.gif

All of it is pretty subjective.

I've seen guys on here who classify themselves as Muscular or Athletic, when I'd say they are average.

I've also seen guys on here who are extremely defined but not very big, but call themselves "Truly Ripped"

Also seen some guys who have incredible bodies in terms of muscle mass and definition call themselves "Average"!

Sounds like we all define ourselves differently.

I think it really depends on how you see yourself. Just this morning I changed mine from "Muscular" to "Average". Why? Nothing about me has changed, but I guess I just didn't feel like I was measuring up. For the same number of guys who under state their physique there is an equal number who over state it. It's all about how you see yourself.

I don't think it is a weight issue at all. One can be Truly Ripped and weigh significantly less than an Average dude. There are other factors such as height, frame etc to be considered.

It is also relative. On RJ, I would advise being EXTREMELY careful before labeling yourself Muscular or Truly Ripped. Simply put, the bar is VERY high around here. What is considered Muscular (or even Fit) at the local mall tends to be eons away from the same definition amongst RJ guys.

What's the point of having that option to pick the build, when viewers can just look at your pictures and judge for themselves? icon_confused.gif

The search function needs a specific quantity for running its programs. RJ (and no website for that matter) is sophisticated enough to make that determination based on photographs.

...and for what its worth, I don't use that function. Like someone else said, its too subjective and I think I would get complaints no matter what I put.

I believe it is included more as a function for searches. If you want advice from or to connect with serious bodybuilders it is easier to search based on that criteria.

It can also be useful in determining where you are truly at in your fitness goals. You may think you are Tuly Ripped until you see some of these dudes.

You must be new here. If a tree falls in the forest, someone on RJ will whine that it didn't fall fast enough, that it fell too slowly, the angle was wrong- no it was right, or finally that it was the wrong tree.

    Sorry, but NO - you got it all wrong;

If a tree falls in the forest it makes it look bad for all of the other trees who just want to blend into the rest of the forest. Now the only thing the media will pay attention to is the fallen tree because it makes the most noise when it falls.

Oh, and if you say you can't hear the tree fall, well then you are a moron. If you weren't such a little bitch maybe you wouldn't be running throught the forest in the first place. Typical Leftist, Republican, Hippie, Conservative, Trans, Cross-Dressing, Down-to-Earth, Professional, Laid-back Tree Hugger bullshit.

Trees with out leaves are probably fake and if they have too many rings to be easily counted thay should just go die in a fire.

Actually, often the arguments don't even come up whether there was a tree that fell, because nobody heard it.icon_lol.gif

This particular thread was almost one of those trees.

Cash, I would love to get your defined build. All that weight I gained isn't muscle.icon_razz.gif

No you are wrong. I'd argue coherently against your rant, but you should just look it up on the Internet.

I would say its very difficult and completely subjective.

I thought I was a little more fit than average. But with all my friends and family saying how I'm now muscular and even guys I meet calling me muscular, I guess it just sunk in and that's what I chose lol.

Either way I didn't put too much thought into it and suggest you do the same. No one is going to fault you for choosing a body type that is different from what they think. It's all subjective. And if someone gives u shit over it, send them my way and I'll b forced to teach them a lesson icon_twisted.gif

Hmmm, from my head to waist, I'm slim or lean with a bird chest. From the waist down, I have thunder thighs, huge muscular calves and hips that make the glutes stand out so much I hate wearing dress pants. You tell me.
