Despite Christopher Columbus discovering the Dominican Republic (and probably enslaving and raping the indigenous people there), this has become a general excuse for unrelated minorities in the U.S. to complain about how much they hate White people YAY!icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

I think it's really interesting how the word "discovered" is used: it implies that before Columbus, nobody knew there was a populated landmass on the western shores of the Atlantic--except, of course, the millions of people who had been living here for over 12,000 years, some of them in civilizations far more advanced than anything in Europe! I guess it's "discovery" if a flea-ridden adventurer lands somewhere, plants a flag in the ground and spreads smallpox around....

I work in banking and have a vacation day on the 2nd Monday of October every year, but I take it as National Coming Out Day.

I think it's funny how you think White people can't discover things that are novel to White people.
