Ok fellas time from the news update on this: -

Dunno if anyone stateside has heard but so far in Englad, October has been weirdly hot. After a freezing summer, the temperatures ended up hitting the 30s. Naturally the half marathon had to happen at this time!

It also had a new route which was meant to be a "one for the PBs!" In actual fact, it was a slow gradiant uphill and with shorter gradiants going down. The whole time seemed to be "tackle the gradiant, recover from the gradiant".

As some of you know I suffer from "bokes" when I run at maximum capacity (its when my stomach keeps trying to be sick). I started getting them uphill in mile 4 uphill, recovered ok. At mile 8 I reached a great stage where I was running steadily at a good pace, thinking "I've got this licked". Then the whole fucking bokes started again at mile 10. People began to overtake me and at this point, for the last 3 miles, everything slowed down. At one point, I actually thought I may have to give up - after 6 half marathons, my 7th one was the one I drop out of. Epic fail. But managed to keep running.

It was only really at that point I noticed everyone else seemed to be struggling. Two people collapsed before the finish line in front of me because of the heat. Managed to plough on, and eventually I crossed the finish line (at full pace)

I was aiming for a time of below 1 hour 40 - I actually got 1 hour 43 m 18s. Which was a bit disappointing but EVERYONE was saying that was a tough tough tough day. And when I looked at my positioning, I found out I was 211th out of around 1348 people, which made me feel better.

Thanks for everyone's good luck. Taking a break from the halves until my knees get better then hitting them up again in the new year!

I know how you feel as heat is my enemy-I never feel the cold, even in the winter of 2010/11.

Thanks Lincsbear - it was tough all right! I was angry there wasn't more water stops!
