Every blue moon I'll shave my arm pit hair. I usually just trim it with clippers but every time I shave it I get an ingrown hair infection/absess. Im battling one now & it hurts like a bitch!

It swelled up to the size of a fist, puss & crap oozing out of it, i had to go to the dr & get antibiotics & etc. I will NEVER shave there again!

Anyone else suffer from this type of stuff? I cant believe bodybuilders & etc shave their bodies & dont get these.

you need to exfoliate like a day or two before and after you shave plus lotion.

that is what helps with me. and instead of shaving have you used any hair removal creams? I never use a razor.

i just use a beard trimmer. It's so quick and painless, no ingrown hair or burn.

I don't like completely removing hair there because when I sweat it just feels weird, and when moving around.. I don't know the skin doesn't feel right. I tried waxing (OMGPAINFULPLACETOWAX) but since then I trim short.

It's from moisture/friction mostly. But probably also clogged pores. I second the recommendation for exfoliation beforehand. And keep the area clean each day after the shave. If you wear deodorant, maybe go a little light so that your pores don't get clogged up with product.

If you have a Lush near you, there is a soap called Dark Angels that exfoliates really well and it always takes care of my ingrown hairs

I suffer from ingrown hairs as well and try to limit myself to shaving only my face+neck. But sometimes grooming my body hair is necessary and it also enhances my appearance. So when I do shave allover I use this:

I highly recommend this product, it works miracles against ingrown hair. You can find it at Sephora, or order through Amazon for much lower price.

It depend on the area. The armpit is tricky because you've got folded skin plus a warm, moist, enclosed area that hosts a ton of bacteria. If you're going to shave there, you should clean the area with alcohol first and lengthen the blade length on your clippers a little. After you shave, you should wipe your pits again with a little witchhazel. It will sting a little, but it works. Shower and then minimize the deodorant.
