What are some of the "scariest places on earth"?

One can get lost in the Paris Catacombs, which contain countless bones.
    There is actual found footage.

The thought of going to a country where they kill gays without blinking is what I consider the "scariest place on earth."

Wal-mart. Even worse: a Wal-mart in rural Indiana.

For me, off all the places I have read about, Pripyat is one of the Scariest places on earth. It was the town that housed all the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. After the core went critical, the town was evacuated and today is a ghost town. Google images of it and you will see what I mean. Many things were left behind but the emptiness and decay of the town makes it very creepy.

Coming in a close second is the suicide woods of Aokigahara in Japan on the slopes of Mount Fuji. Ever since it was described in Wataru Tsurumui's bestselling book The Complete Manual of Suicide as the perfect place to die, many people have commuted suicide here. Many bodies are never found and the situation has gotten so bad that anti suicide signs and squads are all over the forest. If you want to be haunted forever, Google the forest and you will see some deeply disturbing pictures!

As an end point I have been to the catacombs in Paris and I didn't find them that scary. It's a bit of a shock to begin with, but not that scary after a while!

For me Somalia is the scariest place on earth. I was a volunteer in East Africa and the whole region is very poor but Somalia is by far the scariest. Loads of maimed and diseased people from wars and an almost complete lack of vaccinations. For someone from North America this is quite shocking. Add to this the fact that shifto (local word for bandits) on most roads and no central government and this is a very dangerous as well as diseased place. I feel sorry for the poeple who are mostly quite nice but this truely a failed state and one of the most horrifying places on the planet.

The catacombs were creepy for sure.

The scariest places ive been are:

    -alone in London streets, 3am
    -anywhere in Romania (vampires)
    -guatemala city (vampires)
-wilderness of BC (cougars, sasquatch, mountain men)
-middle of nowhere Nevada desert (vampires/americans)

I too had visited the Catacombs of Paris back in 1983.. It was a single corridor leading from the entrance to the exit which was at another part of the city. Wisely, all other corridors were sealed off from the public.

But the real scariest place I walked through was 4th Street, connecting the Greyhound Bus Terminal to Downtown Los Angeles, this walk was completed in 1995, on my way from there to San Francisco.

Your own apartment when the hurricane knocks out the power and you have dead flashlight and you're alone without a working phone and your dad won't let you come over to his house that has a generator.

The passenger seat of my roadster when I'm feeling antsy

I just realized even the sign is scary. Seriously, if it was long and single-lined it wouldn't be half as scary looking

Naw, I've taken the plunge the first time MANY o' times going into empty shut down buildings, the woods at night, & other many things my friends & I have done to investigate odd things. && I'm a TROOPER. But, I do have a slight fear & anxiety with being trapped "under earth" (so to speak). Claustrophobia & all.

Yeah, claustrophobia sucks, the mere thought of being trapped somewhere is terrifying.icon_neutral.gif
