southbeach1500 saidWhat I do know is that the Democrats didn't give "us" gay marriage during the 2 years they held control of Congress and the Presidency at the beginning of the Obama years.

What I also know is that Democrats - and Mr. Obama himself - don't believe in equality for gays, as his (and presumably their) view is that marriage "is between a man and a woman."

So, perhaps if you consult your Democrat allies and ask them why the left didn't grant "us" gay marriage when they could have, you may find your answer.

You keep trying to sell the lie that Democrats had complete control of Congress for 2 years. That is totally false, and you know it. You have been corrected numerous times here, but won't let go of your lie, for political reasons.

Furthermore, Obama has repealed DADT, and is refusing to support DOMA in the courts. He is the most gay-friendly President ever to sit in the White House. Not as aggressive as I would like, but 180 degrees the opposite of any Republican you propose we support in his place.

An amazing formula you advance: because Obama and the Democrats haven't given gays everything we want, we should embrace the Republicans, who have pledged to take away everything we have.

I KNOW, RIGHT ! Dems didn't give us gay marriage.......

Even though Republicans ARE SOOOOOOO......PRO GAY MARRIAGE !

SB, remind us all how hard Repubs fought to end DADT. You must still be wiping away tears of pride.

    Well, crocodile tears anyway.

I think it´s unfair to say that conservatives don´t understand equality.

It´s just that they don´t want gays, women, latinos or blacks to have it.

For many centuries... "All men are free and equal" only applied to white, male protestants.. it took a slave revolt and a feminist movement to equalise them... this is a similar situation

"All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others"

Yep. Democrats didn't give "us" gay marriage. Republicans didn't give "us" gay marriage.

Democrats keep dangling the carrot about "giving" gays gay marriage. Democrats - when they had the ability to do so - did not.

So, regarding the issue of "helping the gays" - if you like being lied to, keep voting Democrat. If you don't like being lied to, don't vote Democrat.

You do have a point: If you want a Party which makes it very clear that THEY PLAN TO NEVER SUPPORT GAY RIGHTS---for marriage or anything else------join the Conservaposse.,

SB, you mistakenly edited my post.......so here you go.

Daily you make another important point: REPUBLICANS WILL LIE EVERY WAY POSSIBLE......including little lies of omission.

You seem to forget that southbeach and others like him truly believe, way down deep, that most gays would be Republicans if it weren't for that hatin'-on-the-gays thing that they do.

Well, on that one point I will agree with SB. I am sure there would be many more Republican gays if the party was not so dismissive of gay rights and so unwelcoming of the glbt population. I just know that for me civil rights and equality are an extremely important issue and I can't embrace a party that does not hold those values. You can say all you want about the president not supporting gay marriage, but it is disingenuous to suggest that Republicans are anywhere close to Democrats on the issue of gay rights.

selective editing is not disingenuousness , it is dishonesty.
