I make some really good fruit smoothies and add protein powder to get my servings of fruit and veggies with my Vita-mixer. I always vary what I throw in there to have a variety but here's what I've been doing as of late.

1 cup of either skim milk or rice milk
1 apple (entire apple but chopped into smaller chunks)
1 peach (pitted and chopped)
1 carrot
small chunk of fresh ginger
1 TBSP of coconut oil
1 to 2 scoops of vanilla whey or egg powdered protein.
I also throw in some powdered vitamin C and maybe some Splenda or Stevia to make it sweeter.

These are a hell of a lot healthier than what you can get at Jamba Juice.

The fruits always vary and once mixed they always tend to taste good. Some authorities are now considering that 9 to 11 servings of fruits and veggies are recommended for optimal health instead of what the FDA has been promoting thus far which I think is 5 to 7.

Making fruit smoothies is an easy and delicious way to get in these requirements. Adding fresh ginger is a great way to add taste, but using too much and it's very hot like peppers in your mouth. The coconut oil is a very healthy fat and makes my smoothies taste almost like a pina colada. I usually make one of these 4x a day.

Any of you have any tips for good eating?

Just some numbers, Make your own judgments based on your dietary needs.

Coconut oil is very high in saturated fat.
1 Tbsp Coconut oil - 13.6 grams total fat - 11.8 saturated
1 Tbsp Butter - 11.5 grams total fat - 7.3 saturated

Granted the Sat fats are made up differently in the 2 things. and the Butter has 31mg of cholesterol while the coconut oil has none.

Thanks, NYC. Even though the coconut oil is saturated it doesn't act the same way in the body like butter does or other saturated fats from other sources like animal fat.

I don't have my booklet with me but it's very close to being an MCT oil. It also takes more energy to digest coconut fat than it actually provides.

It's considered very healthy, anti-bacterial, anti-viral. As long as it's not hydrogenated like so many other oils are in fast foods it's a good choice.
