Music/songs that remind you of your ex

So tonight I went out to the bars with some friends, and they decided to hit the dancefloor. It was a good time up until Super Bass came on, and it sort of hit me hard and unexpectedly.

I had associated that song with a guy that I had been talking to for a long time, but it didn't work out in the end. It brought back good memories, but it was bittersweet because it won't happen again (at least not with him).

It's weird, I know, but it had affected me to the point where I had to leave and come home for the night.

Anyway--do any of you have similar instances where you've come across a song either at a bar, club, on the radio, etc that you've associated with an ex or someone you really liked/loved? If so, what was the story, and how did you handle coming across it?

There are some songs I don't listen to at all anymore because they're painful. Luckily they're not the type to come on the radio or be played anywhere. If they did I think I would leave too.

My ex was obsessed with Fall Out Boy. I can't listen to any of their songs.

Theory of a Deadman. I already hated them before, now it just makes me want to punch babies.

"In The Aeroplane Over The Sea," by Neutral Milk Hotel.

For months after we broke up, it would literally make me cry hysterically. I still get choked up when I hear it, and it's 4 years later. But it reminds me of the good times as well. The definition of bittersweet.

I suppose in a sense this song reminds me of my ex because he was my one and only and taught me so much.

You are always gonna be my love
Even if I fall in love with someone again someday
    I'll remember to love
    You taught me how
You are always gonna be the one
Even now it's still a sad love song
Until I can sing a new song

(Not that I really have feelings for him anymore...)

That's such a beautiful and sad song. I remember listening to that song when I was young and feeling extremely sad even though I did not know the real meaning of the song back then. For me, the song Almost Lovers by A Fine Frenzy always reminded me of my exbf.

I don't know that there's a song for any ex that will get me weepy and ready to crawl in bed with the butter knife muttering "why! why?"...

But, there is one song that will always "get me" - bringing back all sorts of memories of those guys (and all sorts of other memories too) - good, bad, indifferent and bittersweet. In fact, the song figured in my gayest moment ever at Black Party about 6 years ago - it was early morning, the flag dancers have arrived, the old school music is playing and this song comes on - this one dude (hot dude) and I lock eyes and start dancing, then we're both tearing up, soon joined by 3 or 4 other guys, all of us kind of tearing, dancing, hugging thru the extended remix. When it was over, we all sort of laughed, wiped our eyes, chatted for a few minutes and went on our way.

"Souvenirs" - The Voyage (I'll spare you the extended remix icon_wink.gif )

    Apologize by Onerepublic is mine.

Back when I was in High School. I broke up with my girlfreind of 3 years on new years eve. Driving home I felt I had made the worst decision of my life, and on the radio that song played and I thaught to myself it was too late to apologize. Everytime I hear that song it takes me back to that night and somtimes I wish I could go back in time to fix it.

But then again I don't, cause odviously I'm gay now and she's now is one of my bestest freind. and the song told me, somtimes it is too late to apologize but yet it can turn around.

For some reason Like A Prayer by Madonna sort of became "our song" - and now when I hear it it pisses me off.
